>>"UConn is definitely on the right track and on the right path," Manuel said. "Part of the angst of the Big East breaking up was that we aren't going to win like we did before. We've stifled that. There was also the angst that football can't get better, that we've sort of peaked at the Fiesta Bowl. I think Bob [Diaco] and that team is showing that that's not true and that's not going to be the case. We won additional championships in field hockey that we hadn't won in I think in two decades. The academics are stronger than they've ever been here. This institution is unbelievably strong, the faculty and staff. Our donors have continued to be supportive, even more than they have before. Almost by every measure, this university is showing that it's going in the right place."<<

>>Manuel said last month that he will advocate for UConn in any way he can as he moves into a Power Five conference. But he insists UConn doesn't need much help.

"People are very aware of what we do and who we are," Manuel said. "Maybe the next AD will stand up on the roof of Gampel and go on a hunger strike until we get into another league. I have no idea. I'm telling you, I did it the way I thought was the best way for us to do it. I don't think publicly standing up and shouting and shouting about what we're doing is the way to do it. It wouldn't move me.

"There's no application you can put in. If anybody wants to find an application — I've said that before — feel free to send it to the next AD here and I'm sure he or she will fill it out. I'm sure the president will fill it out. But that's not the way it works."<<

I wish we could have kept him longer. He seems to be one of the guys that understands how to balance the AD life. I'm happy he has probably his dream job now and it's really exciting to hear him publically say he'll support us moving to another conference.

Thank you Warde for all your efforts.

It's easy to be an arm chair critic as to why UConn isn't in a P-5. Probably that type of commentary holds less water than a colander.

A P-5 program apparently appreciates your skill level more that a lot of fans of a G-5 program.

Good luck and best wishes for you and your family!

Regardless of any disappointment I may have with UConn's current status, you had a very large hill to climb when you came here, and firmly believe you have got UConn closer to the summit.

Don't let the door hit you in the . Maybe the new guy will actually try to improve UConn's situation and won't be looking for his next job. At Michigan Warde can monitor the heck out of stuff. Perfect fit.

Warde can't just come out and say more publicly than he has above. Just because he doesn't run everything by Freescooter doesn't mean they aren't occurring (thank god this isn't the case). Read the quotes carefully - they are very clear work has been going on behind the scenes and its positive.

"UConn is definitely on the right track and on the right path."

"People are very aware of what we do and who we are."

Those are deliberate statements. UConn is executing its plan.

In fairness though, BY posters who most likely have never worked a day in their life in collegiate athletic administration do know more than the UM BOT, the UM President, and UM's biggest donors who were undoubtedly consulted. So... there is that.

Once the ACC gets poached they'll be knocking on the door. Wait for it cause that's the logical fit. Til then enjoy trips to New Orleans and visit family while catching a game in Florida.

WM was well known + respected by his peers around the country. I wonder if prez SH asked to him to recommend some one out there that he believed would be a good fit ? He has a pulse on UC athletics better than any search committee.

I do not have enough time in the day to monitor all the posts on this forum. I do realize we all have different opinions and have often wondered why a lot of folks go a bit harsh on you. This post answered my question.

We're really going to miss him. I'm in the camp that loves Warde, hates Susan so many will disagree with me on relative matters.
