It was hilarious, 4 dudes most people have never heard of doing ordinary dunks and missing dunks and then that one guy almost killed himself getting rejected by the side of the backboard.

Until they can get the major stars to do it again there is no point in having one. What made the dunk contest back in the day wasnt just the dunks it was the star players doing the dunking and dueling head to head. MJ vs Dominique was what the people wanted to see not random 9th guy on the bench vs 9th guy on the bench.

Its why the 3pt contest has surpassed it, you have the stars doing the 3pt contest. Steph was set to do it until he got hurt this year.

Castle was excellent last year but nobody cares because it’s so hard to impress the public with a dunk anymore.

There are professional dunkers who do things that would amaze everyone but it takes them dozens of attempts to get one in.

LeBron could’ve just done it his rookie year and then be done with it. That’s what Kobe did he understood the history you do it once or twice then you pass it down to the next young star. As a high schooler, I wore out the VHS tapes of the dunk contests with MJ, Wilkins, Drexler, Spud, Dr J, Kersey, Stansbury, heck even Chambers was entertaining in those events

There is a documentary series on Prime about the ABA. When they talk about the creation of the dunk contest, and how exciting it was for players and fans alike, it's hard to believe how far it has fallen.

That’s not the point,Lebron not doing the dunk contest made it cool for other stars not to do the dunk contest thus ruining the dunk contest. Ya think Lebron wasn’t gonna gonna have favorable judges. Kobe was never known as a dunker, MJ did the dunk contest and did the 3 pt contest which he failed miserably because he was never afraid to fail.

I didn’t even mention Lebron not challenging Kobe at the end of that Allstar game.
