Our fans have good taste. The Guinness and Magic Hat sold out long before the cut-off time.

Heard complaints that they ran out of food at lots of the stands. Didn't seem prepared for such a large crowd. Strange.

It was not a full house. There were three rows where I was that were completely empty, maybe paid, but no butts in the seats. For my first game at the Rent, I was underwhelmed. I've been to Penn State games and that was a major game day environment. The crowds were 100% into the games. Most of the people in my section yesterday spent the whole time talking about anything but the game or acting like fools. This experience showed me the we are light years away from being big time and with Coach P at the helm we will never get there. This is gonna be a long season. Kicking myself for choosing this season to get season tickets.

Was only up there for the first half. Most people weren't really paying that much attention to the game but up until that point we were either leading or tied up until the last second, so the mood was pretty good. Wasn't the forum to specifically address anything with Herbst. McHugh was there also - talked to him for a few (he is a friend of the family). Once it went to hell in the 2nd half I almost wished I went back up there to see if I could sense anything. But I had friends in my seats and couldn't leave them down there the whole game.
Does McHugh stick up for Pasqualoni/make excuses for him? I am interested in his take on the whole situation. I really hope he isn't sticking up for him.

I don't disagree but I sure hope they lie to us about the real start time for the game next week (tell everyone 7:30 if it's an 8:00 start - we do that to my sister in law and it works). We can't have an empty stadium for kick-off.

The Michigan fan's will make sure that doesn't happen

Specifically, no (though I haven't talked to him extensively about it). Nobody is happy with where we are though. I think there was hope it might be better this year (as a lot of us hoped) but now that we clearly are just as bad or worse, I expect things to happen.

A little off topic - but what happened in the neighborhood of section 220 last night that resulted in about 6 people getting taken out in cuffs?

OK Money, since you know the guy -- the circumstantial evidence suggests McHugh was very instrumental in guiding PP here (oh those longtime CT HS FB assn ties) and in fact may have quietly told Hathaway to ignore Burton. Then he quietly told Sue and Warde to keep PP another year. Plausible deniability in both cases. On a scale of 0-10 what do YOU think Larry's involvement was?

On the initial hire, there is no doubt in my mind he was very involved, especially given the Burton situation (and the relative power vacuum at UCONN at the time). As to last winter? I'm certain he was consulted, and I'm also fairly certain that he wouldn't have pushed to have PP fired (then). If Herbst and Warde wanted him gone? I don't think he would have stood in the way, especially if Burton (or someone else) ponied up the money for PP's buyout. There is no question he wants a winner, and he wouldn't choose nepotism (or whatever the right word is in this case) over winning.

I'm not surprised about theninitial hire...I now for a fact he hated Hathaway and wanted him gone (he new EXACTLY what Hathaway had..I mean hadn't done as AD)...and that Hathaway would do what ever it took to get McHugh off his back and keep his job.

If Coach P. is back it's a certainty (for a lot of others besides me as well). You weren't one of the drunk a$&holes in my section were you? If we're ever going to have a home field advantage, it's going to have to be more about the game and less about getting sh#t-faced at the pre-game tailgate and keeping the beer guy busy. I get it with college kids, but with grown-ass men it's pathetic.

Friends who came with me noted how badly they were running them as well.

didn't get to the game until end of first quarter. lots of people walking in with us, and even more just hanging out in the parking lot or just outside the stadium.
What I don't get is that thousands that never make it to their seats.
At any point in time, there is literally 5K people walking around the stadium.

my theory is that the game just isn't important to most people. it's more a chance to hang and drink with friends, and if 'forced', maybe see a few plays of a football game. as soon as uconn was down 2 touchdowns in the 3rd (maybe it was early 4th quarter), people began leaving in droves. I'm sure lots went back to their cars to continue tailgating.

I think the tailgating has become bigger than the actual game. I'm sure this has to do with the on-field performance the past few seasons.

I can't wait to see what these tailgaters (partygaters) do at the Michigan game.

People don't sit in their own seats. As BL can attest to there were about 10 extra people in the row in front of us. I was in the box during the first half and came down in the second to sit with my friends.

Lots of drunken idiots more interested in arguing with people watching the game than watching the game.

Overall I thought the crowd was very good...and would have been great had we had a reason.

Yeah, the extra people in the row in front of us worked out well. My associate who I brought picked one of them up. The "dance" gave me something to pay attention to in the fourth quarter.

No, the UConn fans need to be drunk to watch this year's FB team...:)

I did have to do a double take when the beer vendor was making "deliveries" for us in the stands. I don't remember every happening before @ the Rent.

Agreed 100% on the Ribbon Board. I had great expectations for it to be used to add to the crowd noise, but was instead just a bright way of advertising the usuals even more. You can leave the ads up almost all game - just have them off for the 25 seconds the play clock runs on D. Not that hard.

On the topic of crowd, I agree it was good, all things considered. Last night was the earliest I feel I have ever quit on the game. Not left early, mind you - but mentally quit. I wasn't able to stand and cheer past the middle of the 3rd quarter. If I quit - the guy who usually convinces himself we can come back despite any obstacles - I imagine there are plenty of others on the sidelines that have done the same.

That game was a complete route by Maryland. They totally dominated the game. If not for their miscues, the score would have reflected that. Both the offensive and defensive lines were worthless. I hope PP is right in saying they are young, but have to get better now.

When we are down 40 points in the third quarter, the remaining UConn fans will leave.

Maybe they need to set-up

Maybe they need to set-up a beer IV against Michigan.
