Dear Commissioner Aresco,
I was fortunate enough to attend the Louisville at UConn game last night at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. I am a huge UConn fan and alumnus from the University. I love college basketball and everything about it. And while I certainly want UConn to move to another conference, I am a huge American conference supporter.
However, the on field performance of the refs at the game last night where borderline offensive. They clearly lost control of the game and couldn't keep up. There was no equity and consistency. And to top it off, apparently it is now legal to jump on an offensive player while he is shooting. Clearly our coach was upset and deserved a technical foul (maybe two but I certainly doubt it). The calls continued throughout the night. I am still getting used to these new rules bit as long as they are called consistently, I have no problem.
I also want to make it clear that at the end of the day Louisville won and that is not the point here. The refs conduct and performance distracted from what I came to see and that is good basketball.
I would like to see an official statement from the conference about the refs and an action plan to improve their quality that includes:
1. New Staffing
2. Training
3. Reasonable schedules that keep refs from being overworked
