The College Football Playoff selection committee announces the changes to its strength of schedule metric

This seems like another step towards marginalizing G5 teams. In essence, the committee is creating higher risk and less rewards for playing anyone outside of the P4 structure. On the other hand, I wonder if it makes Connecticut a more attractive, nonconference opponent given that the P4 may perceive us as a "winnable game" that is less of a drag on their strength of schedule component.

-> SEC teams are required to schedule at least one additional high quality non-conference from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences or Notre Dame each season. The SEC will continue to evaluate its policies to ensure the continued scheduling of high-quality non-conference opponents. <-
