Some of the matchups are ... poorly seeded (IMHO)? Princess Bride vs. Casablanca in the round of 64?

HOW IS CASABLANCA LOSING!!!!!!!!

Seriously. I love me some Princess Bride, but Casablanca is a near perfect story with real stakes (NAZIS) that is beautifully acted. People voting for Princess Bridge must not have actually seen Casablanca or are just film philistines.

Children of Men looks like it's going to lose too. I think it's better than Unforgiven, but whatever. That's a good movie too.

No Body Heat or To Live and Die in LA?
You should’ve voted for it.

Well it’s based on how many votes they accrued originally. The Princess Bride barely even made it in to begin with, but I kinda had a feeling it would give Casablanca a run for its money. Once people are faced with these pairings, they are probably viewing it through the prism of “Which of these two movies would I want to watch right now if I had to choose?” Even with how great a classic movie Casablanca is, it’s hard to beat the rewatchability of Princess Bride.

It's a bit dated and boring, and is facing a huge fan favorite. Put simply Casablanca is the better movie. Princess Bride is more fun to watch and more entertaining.

I disagree that it's dated or boring or less entertaining than The Princess Bride. We're not talking about Citizen Kane here, which is technically brilliant but a giant snooze. The film is short and well-paced.

Ok, you are correct. But it's not fun. People like fun. They generally don't want to have to think while being entertained. And yes, @Robertelamin people do re-watch Princess Bride over and over.

Sure, but this isn't the "Boneyard Most Fun Movie of All-Time.

And you're right--people do watch Princess Bride again and again.

Yeah, but see my post in the other thread. It kind of is, or half these movies have no business being in the field at all. Caddyshack? Dumb and Dumber?

They don't. And I enjoy the hell out of both those movies. (Dumb and Dumber less as I age, but it will always have sentimental value.)

This whole "Boneyard Greatest Movie of All Time" tournament is a joke and makes a mockery of many American cinema classics. The choices should have been weighted by critical acclaim, Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globes, box office, etc. Leaving it to the Boneyard knuckleheads to list their favorite movies is something entirely different from a true Greatest Movie of All Time tournament.

neither Blade Runner!!! LMFAO!!
If this Boneyard Tournament we're about great paintings, Mona Lisa would be like #599 and #1 would be a Warhol self portrait.

LOL, this isn’t AFI Robby. That’s why it’s titled The Boneyard Greatest Movie of All-Time Tournament. If you wanted to get more movies recognized you could’ve stuffed the ballot box. If you spend any amount of time on here you probably could’ve guessed there aren’t a ton of Truffaut, Wilder and Tarkovsky fans.

So, it's just like the NCAA. Half the teams in the tourney are auto bids where almost no one believes they are one of the best.

And, instead of a straight statistical analysis for seeding, it works partly based on popular opinion of the polls.
