UConn plays South Florida this week. Two state sponsored institutions of ‘higher’ learning. (South Florida isn’t in South Florida which gets them off to bad start for playing school.)

You need to be as old as Pudge to remember the last time UConn beat an FBS team. They have spent 20+ million since 2011 on a parade of coaches who couldn’t win in the NVC.

South Florida might actually be worse off. That they hired and have stuck with Charlie Strong is pretty hilarious if you don’t have skin in the game. Can you even imagine hiring a coach so bad that you are sweating UConn week?

If you combined these two rosters you’d need to hire a Temple coach to make a bowl.

Anyway let’s get to the good part:

These two universities both have huge budget problems. That’s not going to get in the way of them spending millions on incompetent coaches and athletic departments.

Sending young adults out to potentially scramble their brains also isn’t a concern - sure Charlie Strong is going to make like $600k this week - but whatever.

The beauty of this complete disaster of a football game played between two universities wasting tens of millions of dollars on their football ineptitude is... they changed the time of the game because someone might get bit by a mosquito on a 50 degree night.

The next time you propose more government in your life... remember the time two inept athletic departments wasting 20 million dollars annually ignored paying 7 figures each to Strong and Edsall but ran scared from mosquitos.

Hmmnn. Get some sleep once in a while. I think this much is evident, if you're not in the P5, you're pissing money away in football. This all seems like a game of attrition to see who is going to hang on long enough for the day the P5 decide to break off on their own. They want to bleed out the have nots and have them concede so there could be no claims of collusion afterwards.

Agree with you on the mosquitoes though. Told my wife, in a state with 3 million people 2 people died. Probably a better chance of winning that night's lottery.

They aren’t losing 40 million in hard dollars. Not even close. They paper a loss of $40 Million because that’s where they can leverage the alumni base for donations and pressure the legislature for subsidies. It’s a lot easier raising $75 Million for new facilities (that now create even more overhead expense) for sports that literally generate zero fan interest beyond friends and family crying pauper.

In terms of CTE, again proven everyday to be junk science. It’s football’s version of killer mosquitos.

If the losses aren’t real why don’t they pay qualified coaches a market rate salary.

I love this place - the subsidy isn’t real money. Okey-dokey.

The monetary losses aren’t real and CTE is fake news.

You learn something new every day on the BY.

Lmfao.

Right, the alumni base that supposedly has millions to burn in donations to UConn isn't completely bewildered by this tactic.

In August I ran into an athletic administrator from USF in an elevator in Indianapolis. I was very surprised when he candidly told me that UConn’s move to the BE is a smart play. He went on to say something about playing this P5 invite game is tough. He then bolted from when the elevator doors opened because he realized none of these quotes would make for good sound bites.

Must be cold in perdition to be always a Know-it-all

Look. UConn ain’t Sears. We aren’t walking away from recent Capital budget expenditures on Football or other Athletic Department initiatives. When you get past that illusory sale ... then you can talk Big Picture

There’s $16.9m in “Student Athletes Expense”. Now Tuition R&B Fees - total cost of attendance. If WE were SMU instead of State U ... what do you think that number would actually be. So I don’t understand why they reported that $40m Loss - got to be a President strategy; but it’s not Apples to Apples.

You constantly saying something doesnt mean its true. Generally it neans it’a not true.

You do realize they have already half walked away from it right? Granted playing 6 northeast FCS teams is your wet dream but you are the only person who wants that.

The 40 million is complete bull spit put up by the we need the Big East crowd. It's propaganda.

Exactly uconndogs point

This is You repeating the same chorus over & over. That ain’t gonna get you to Juilliard ... you still can’t sing.

You live in this make believe world of academia so it’s not surprising you don’t get this.

The 2013 contest between these two teams was one of the worst games I've ever seen. 16 punts in that one. 13-10 USF win. Future NFL QB Tim Boyle's first start too. 15-43 on the day. This year should feature more scoring but the teams may be equally as bad.

lol dude youve been proved 100% absolutely and completely wrong for a half decade.

you are so arrogant and stubborn that youll continue to make an arse of yourself by constantly tripling down on your rank stupidity.

this is a clown college and nothing is going to ever change until competent people are put in place.

lord knows you dont think enough of the program to beleive we deserve that - but some of us do.

a guy who claims to teach business who doesnt get sunk costs.

uconn cant walk away from rentscher field’s tiny investment - lol

The subsidy isn’t real is true galaxy brain level stuff.

literally the kind of take you get from a mushbrain facebook poster

no differenr than when kramer claimed companies can just write it off.

a real detachment from reality.

People get fired from jobs in the real world. If these university presidents were that competent they’d be pulling in triple the salary in the private sector.

There’s zero accountability. Think of what the Mich St president had to do in order for them to send them packing.

can you imagine being a staunch herbst supporter and not deleting your account and attempting to erase that from the internet?

The first game of the TJ Weist era. He, at 40%, has the highest winning percentage of any UConn coach since Randy’s first stint.

The ct lottery is rigged, you're more likely to die from a mosquito bite.
No one has won in what 2 years?

Haven't seen many UConn games huh?

That UConn Virginia game we won was one of the more painful games i ever sat through. And we won.

I will forever hold a grudge over her tenure. With every single move in realignment she proved herself to be completely out of her depth. From replacing Hathaway with Pendergast (tectonic plates are shifting), to monitoring with Warde while scumbag Jurich out maneuvered her. Or my favorite "we need to ask ourselves, if putting student athletes on a bus to Ames is in their best interest".

I get that to academic types she did a great job, but to us we just want to watch high level college sports guys, she failed miserably.

Get your former football players to ante up. A Syracuse o-lineman from the 70's donated $1 million last year for the dome renovation. A couple of weeks ago, he donated another $25 million to the football program and established a scholarship in the business school in memory of his mother.

Technically, one of your former players tried to ante up for UConn....

Depends on your definition of "many." But that 2013 USF game sticks out in my mind.

As for another 13-10 slugfest...I did enjoy watching the Virginia lineman, who ran on the field late, right before the missed FG as time expired, walk off the field crying.

I never thought UConn had a real chance in the last round of CRA. The tv gods already decided that the ACC had enough teams in the northeast to deliver the economics they wanted.
