Today's update. TA has some wonky formatting, so getting the data into excel has been (checks notes) a freaking challenge.

Six top 25 rated teams lost - FSU, TX, PSU, ISU, Vandy, L'ville

UConn up to 4th place among opponents:

What the hell is going on with Boston College. Amazing they have a power 4 home. Football was supposed to be their calling card. What we would do with that P4 money god dang.
Also bad job by Hockey East not syncing up football with hockey schedule. Football at noon, hockey at conte forum at 7. UConn vs BC all day

Gotta question the algorithm the use. How do you win a game and fall 4 places(Buffalo) and somebody else (BC) gets blown out and only falls 4 places. We blow out someone and don’t move at all. And the team we beat last week wins a close one and is up 12!! Makes no sense.

in the CBS rankings Buffalo moved up 10 spots to 99 which is still lower than The Athletics 95. I don't have the Athletic full rankings but it's possible some teams with better wins leapfrogged Buffalo. Buffalo beat E. Michigan which is sitting at 129 by 3 points in OT. Not sure that gets you much credit if any.

Karma for pushing out Castellanos.

Karma for pushing out Castellanos.
Did they actually push him out? I thought he had portaled to test his value and FSU hit him with a massive NIL offer so they went out and got Lonergan.

I would be surprised, but not shocked if they did actually push him out. It doesn't make sense to me to push out a proven QB for one who has barely played for the past 2 years. But this is BC and Bill O'Brien we're talking about lol

Castellani was benched towards the end of last season as I recall. He took his ball and left. I don’t think he was pushed out.

Today's update - seven top 25 from TA rankings lost. Love it when we have a bye and move down, but you know, the algorithm and analytics.

On exit - forgot to change the wonky records that show as one loss when in reality undefeated. Will update later.

But it's not.

This looks to be just some guys opinion.
You might as well ask some guy in a bar what his rankings are.
Not sure why you choose to post these.

From the “guy” who does the rankings:

“ I started these rankings in 2017, when I volunteered to handle it among our tiny new staff, because I was someone who would follow every team. (There were only a mere 130 teams back then.) I love an Alabama-Georgia game. I also love a mid-week MAC game. I enjoy all of college football. That means I take every spot in these rankings seriously, and I try to explain it as best I can. You probably don’t agree. I see it in the comments. That’s OK.

Some reminders: First, yes, this is a subjective exercise. I look at analytical rankings and take them into account, but what follows is just my opinion. As the season continues, I adjust based on whom teams have played and whom they’ve beaten. The preseason rankings are just an educated guess, and I don’t hold on to them. They’ll change, sometimes rapidly, as results come in, but it usually takes a few weeks for everyone to get enough data points to form strong conclusions. “

Yes as I thought, he just does comparative scores, which we've seen in the past can lead some of the worst teams in FBS to beating top 20 teams.

I just think if someone is going to post rankings here on a weekly basis, why not post something that at least does use some form of analytics and algos

You are welcome to start your own thread?

I for one enjoy these subjective rankings because they give us something to talk about. On a discussion board.

So, even though I am discussing these rankings, on a discussion board as you state, I have to start another thread because you don't agree with it? Yea that seems rite.

You mean like the AP or Coaches Poll? 😉

The NYT's uses The Athletic for all their sports. Not sure if they own The Athletic or what.

Pretty questionable algorithm when FAU moves up 21 spots by beating one of the worst FBS teams (UAB at 129th).
People confuse rankings with grades. Rankings are not in a vacuum but against other programs. You have to compare FAU to the programs they moved past and at 3-3, 101 seems fair. CBS has FAU +9 to 101.

UConn is +2 to 68 in the CBS rankings, cuse -4 to 69. It's all good. rutgers is -8 to 67 and bcu -8 to 96 because they actually played. Huge opportunity for UConn at Joey Chestnut this weekend.

UConn is officially in the top 50%!

I'm not gonna quibble over placement, good to be in the mix. Took me a while to figure out who #20 is. They only beat UMass 21-3

Delaware isn't ahead of us..

No Temple?

Memphis ahead of USF?

Kind of a garbage list.

Those 2 losses are like a pebble in each shoe. Can’t shake them lose and they just inflict a painful reminder with every step forward. Got to keep marching though. Let’s get a P4 W this week.
.
I have no problem with us at about 70 we do need to beat some better teams. Close doesn’t count and we need to knock out BC this weekend if we want to seriously be a top 60 team in my opinion

No Delaware isn't ahead of us
what, because Temple beat UMass?
USF and Memphis are a toss up
You're garbage

Delaware should be.

Temple has a one point loss to Navy and a win againts UTSA which is better than anything we have.

Even the people who made the ranking admitted that they screwed up in the comments.

You don’t know ball at all.
