The Athletic Projections

I think those numbers are crazy.........I really don't see Duke or Texas could have better odds to win it than UCLA, USC or ND.......I'd be much more comfortable with UConn being tucked into the middle of the pack rather than the favorite.......

The odds of winning take into consideration who is in your bracket. To me the Texas region is wide open and if you are with South Carolina or UConn you have only one path and it is through the favorite. In the end the total can only add up to 100%.

To me it looks good since UCLA and Texas really have the toughest roads based on matchups. UConn is playing good ball and they pounded SC so they really should be the odds on favorite if you don't think USC will beat them and I really doubt that happens again.

UCONN 24% chance of winning championship
South Carolina 22%
Texas 15%
Duke 12%
Notre Dame 7%
UCLA 6%
USC 5%
others 9%
It is inconceivable to me that Duke is favored, especially by such a margin, over Notre Dame, UCLA, & USC! Not saying they couldn’t win, but I would pick all three of those teams as more likely champions than Duke. They do have a scary defense, one that may win them a championship in the next few years, but at present, I just don’t think they have enough offense. I do believe in Kara Lawson though, and it would not surprise me in the least to see them win a chip in the next five years!

FF Prediction based on the brackets: UConn vs. UCLA, and SC vs. uNd (Speedy guards overcome Tallness this year until SC in OT);

Finals: UConn vs. SC (as it should be in Paige's Final Final!!!) Geno vs. Dawn and both teams healthy...

I like Geno, CD, and the best women in the 'fight' to prevail this year!

Go Huskies!!!

Agreed............I've seen Duke a bunch of times this season and their offense has been less than stellar in most of them......

That was their issue last year against us. Our defenses cancelled out basically, but our offense managed to top theirs.

Yeah, that makes it even more interesting/baffling. UCLA is the only team from their bracket with odds reported. So they're saying Duke has better odds of defeating South Carolina AND winning two more games in the final four than UCLA does of getting to the final four and winning those two games. I like defense, so give Duke a bit more respect than some other folks do, but I don't give them much of a chance to get past South Carolina, then, say, Texas and UConn.

That’s much more in line with what I’d have thought. Shows once again that the betting public as a whole are better predictors than a few sports reporters.
Not seeing the change fro that link. Or they changed again

OP:
UConn 24%
South Carolina 22%
Texas 15%
Duke 12%
Notre Dame 7%
UCLA 6%
USC 5%

ESPN:
South Carolina 240
UConn 260
UCLA 650
Texas 800
USC 900
Notre Dame 12-1
Duke, NC State, TCU are all 50-1

Apples and oranges numbers, but the big difference is Duke went from fourth highest odds to back in the pack.

UCLA at 6% is ludicrous: they have almost as easy a bracket as South Carolina. I also don't see a 9% chance that the winner will come from outside The Athletic's top 8.

Just plain nuts, IMHO. No UConn fan who knows about superstition should think about UConn being a favorite, at all. Not just because of bad juju. Because it makes no sense. Is UConn one of those that could win? Absolutely. But to put them ahead of South Carolina is crazy. If they wind up playing the Gamecocks, they will be the underdog because Dawn will have her team out for blood. The UCLA ranking is crazy, and I don't see Duke being ranked that highly, either.
