They got it right...

Clark should sweep ALL the NPOY awards available. Caitlin is the best player this year and it's not even close. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Well deserved. Hope she sweeps them all, she deserves it.

Side note--if Boston decides to use her 5th year, how cool is it that 3 previous POY winners would all be playing together next year (Bueckers, Boston, and Clark?). Would be the only time in history that's happened.

What would be a surprise if anyone votes for anyone other than Clark for national POY or any other award she has been nominated for. There has never been anyone in the history of WCBB who did what she did this year. EVER!

I agree with the award but I disagree that there's nobody close. Siegrist is having a pretty incredible season.

The distance between Clark and everyone else is about the same as the distance from the Earth to Neptune. Siegrist is having a sensational year, agreed, but as I said before, Clark's play this year is not from this planet!

I just don't agree with you. If Clark is on Neptune, Siegrist is on Jupiter or Saturn at least. If Villanova makes a deep run, Siegrist will have an outside shot at Kelsey Plum's single season scoring record, and is getting over 9 rebounds a game on a team with a much weaker supporting cast than Clark. As I said, I would definitely vote for Clark, but the gap between Clark and Siegrist is smaller than the gap between them and the rest of the field.

125 points to tie. How deep of a run do you think they are capable of making?

Well, Villanova would likely have to make the Final Four for Siegrist to have any reasonable chance. Not too likely, but their bracket is Indiana and Utah, so not impossible either. But if she drops 50 on Cleveland State or Washington State, who knows? She's one shy of Plum's record of consecutive 20 point games if I remember correctly; even Connecticut's defense didn't hold her under 20 in three tries.

The point I'm trying to make is that saying there's no one close to Clark is overlooking a remarkable season by the top scorer in the country. I would vote for Clark, as I've said repeatedly, but I don't see why people need to denigrate Siegrist.

Nobody is gonna score 50 on Washington St. I will absolutely guarantee that.

As to the larger point, I agree that Siegrist has had a great career and is capping it with a remarkable season. It probably would've gone really far in making the case for Siegrist if they had managed to beat UConn once, but they didn't and they had 3 tries.

These players may have an argument with that last sentence, Jackie Stiles, Kelsey Plum and Kelsey Mitchell...and I'll also throw in Maddie Siegrest as well into the mix.

They can have all the arguments they want, but anyone who knows anything about WBB, knows that this year Clark is on a completely other level. I really don’t like her, because I believe she is also a whinny, entitled, poor sport- but I am in awe of her performance!

None of that trio had anywhere near the career Caitlin is having. Only Plum and Stiles in their respective senior seasons at Washington and SW Missouri State scored more points than Clark has averaged in each of her three seasons.

And then there's the small matter that she's averaging more than 7 rebounds per game and nearly 8 assists per game for her Iowa career while none of those three did better than the 3 to 4 rebounds or assists range in college. Plum's 31.7 ppg senior year and Stiles' 30.3 in her senior year were the only times any of that trio approached what Clark has been doing for three years, and even then, both were well behind in rebounds and assists.

Caitlin also has led Iowa to a Big Ten regular-season title and two straight Big Ten tournament titles, greater accomplishments than what Mitchell, Plum or Stiles achieved in college. Missing from Clark's resume, as has often been tossed around here on the BY, is deep advance for Iowa into the NCAA tournament (Stiles scored a coup by helping upset Duke in the '03 tournament).

Otherwise, it's not close. Anybody else you'd like to suggest?

It's semantics, but you mean points per game average, not points scored. Plum scored 960 as a Junior, more than Clark has scored in any season thus far.

I thought Clark was way behind in terms of games played because of covid, but it's really not the case. Plum played 34, 33, 37 and 35 games during her 4 years. Clark has played 30, 32 and 33 (and counting). Not that much of a difference in games per season.

You can look at it that way, nwhoopfan, but by your own numbers, that would mean about a couple of hundred points difference between Plum and Clark at the rate they score.

Whatever the case, Caitlin's across the board numbers are substantially better than Stiles', Plum's and especially Mitchell's.

If your criteria for the player of the year are:
1) The best player....
2) On the best team...
Then please vote for Aliyah Boston of South Carolina.

If you're voting for the best basketball player in the game there's absolutely no conversation.

It's easy to be good when you're surrounded by McDonald's All-Americans.

Try to excel when you're surrounded by 3* teammates.

That's where you earn MVP by making those around you look better.

Another Player of the Year performance.
