In a world where the Big 10 has 12 going to 14 and the Big 12 has 10 and the Atlantic 10 has 16, I'm not sure the number has any true meaning. Just as the Big something was popular at one point, a number is popular today...could have been any number Fahrenheit 451 would have worked as would. So would QBVII

The number can be easily changed. American 12 is generic and it does't lock in one part of the country.It is as good as any name for this clusterfrick conference.
