That Was Fun. Now What?

That was the worst decision of game. Fortunately, it didn’t cost UConn. Compare that with Joe’s decision to overthrow Mel Brown who only had single coverage. Live to fight another day.

My biggest concerns are QB and keeping the O-line as good as it was this year.

I’ll keep busy during the off-season with the hoop teams, ice hockey and baseball. Much to appreciate at UConn.

I think that play call was the worst decision for sure.

-> As the roster stands, Evers will have another shot at the starting job in 2025. So will Cole Welliver, a rising sophomore who ironically comes from the same home town in Flower Mound, Texas. Welliver was a three-star recruit who threw for more than 3,000 yards and 50 touchdowns as he finished his high school career playing for Dallas Cowboys legend Jason Witten. Tucker McDonald, a redshirt freshman this year, Caleb Smith, a Staples High alum, and Jake Tripptree were also on the Huskies’ roster in 2024.<-

Keep sleeping on Nick. Lot of posters on here had a similar attitude toward Joe coming into this season simply rooted from the NCState game last season. He's going to be the guy going forward and will develop a ton with a full spring practice season. Not going to find much better options through the portal.

We need another QB and some realignment news.

Did you guys see that Evers pass into the end zone into triple coverage? Why Nick? Why?
Yup. I’d be surprised if Evers sees time next year. Not accurate, poor vision, not fast or elusive and makes bad choices. Not enough R or P in the RPO. Sometimes you miss and have to accept that.

Joe Fagnano really became better year 1 to year 2...I think Evers deserves some of the same benefit. He has been at multiple different schools with different offenses.

I know we were down Fagnano going into this season after his first year, and he really had a great year for us.

If Welliver has the potential to be a good QB, it’s time for him to get his shot.

One thing that I noticed, I think it is Welliver really celebrating Fagnano’s first TD pass with him on the sideline yesterday. That’s a good sign that Cole and Joe were tight and that Cole is fully engaged. It’s been questioned how Cole’s patience was holding up. It seems to be fine.

Bring in a QB to contend with Welliver or Evers. Losing Bell and Sheffield will hurt, but I think Porter and Gathings showed great progress the 2nd half of the year.
Did I miss a post somewhere on Sheffield??

Joe had to prove it multiple times to get any PT. After it seemed like he earned the job he had to wait it out a second time. Not sure where the benefit was. Whoever earns it should play. Good luck to Nick but he can't be the only guy competing as presumptive starter. Keep working and win the job.

lol. some School in the south will be the next media darling whine if UConn’s name comes up.

jmu to acc.
If ACC wants to add, UConn is better option than JMU. I am more worried about Army/Navy/Tulane/

Sammis seems to be an intelligent, thoughtful coach who will manage the Offense based on the personnel he has at his disposal. His relationship with Mora will only grow stronger. Is he the Head Coach in waiting? We could do worse, but with a 4 year contract for Mora, it is a little early to anoint him.
My buddy is Sammis’s realtor, only met Gordon a couple times but lots of interactions with the Mrs & Gordon’s old man… they didn’t anticipate being here long-term… apparently the wife said, “the plan is to get a promotion, then to get a job somewhere bigger”.

Gordon seems well-regarded and motivated. He did great work with the O-line and showed growth at OC as the season went on. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants OC experience at P2 or NFL is he can get it before moving up to head coach.

Sometimes the grass isn’t really greener. Ask Geno.

Damn, you just have to get through this mess before you start thinking about next year. Yates was an anchor in many different ways.
