That Coach Looks Familiar. And He Is. Welcome Back, Jim Calhoun.

Great read!

In bringing in Calhoun, a 2005 inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame, St. Joseph was able to do that and then some. Initial plans called for admitting 50 men in the first class. That has doubled.

“This is what we now refer to as the Calhoun Effect,” Free said.

According to university officials, freshman applications are up by 83 percent (female applications have increased nearly 40 percent) and transfer applications have almost doubled, to 438 from 224. The officials expect a student body of 900 undergraduates, 300 of whom will be freshmen or transfers.

I'm so glad coach has another project to which to bring his considerable talents. Good luck Coach!

One in which he gets all of the benefits and has all of the impact on the kids, but none of the headaches.

Thanks for sharing. I also enjoyed reading the article on Jimmy O’Brien linked in the article. Interesting that OSU fired for cause - a judge awarded him a decent amount of money from OSU. But, the NCAA ruled otherwise.

Apples and oranges to KO's situation. O'Brien made a $6,000 payment six years earlier to the newly widowed mother of Alex Radojevic in Serbia. The judge ruled that the payment to Radojevic’s mother appeared humanitarian and that “this single, isolated failure of performance was not so egregious’’ to warrant O’Brien’s firing. The NCAA disagreed.

FWIW, that may well be why UConn's attorneys listed a series of events, including shooting hoops and the Ray phone, rather than a "single, isolated failure of performance" as the support for firing Kevin.

This is why everyone hates the NCAA and their petty, mid-guided decisions.

Many thanks to Coach Calhoun for bringing St Josephs back to Life. The enrollment and applications r breaking all records. They reopen 2 dorms this yr. The University expected only 50 male undergrads for the first yr. They got 100
