Maryland's application for admission to the Big Ten has been approved by the conference's Council of Presidents, making the university's move official. Elizabeth Conlisk, the vice president of communications for the Big Ten Network, confirmed the news publicly shortly after 10:30 a.m. Patricia Florestiano, the first Maryland regent to arrive at the University of Baltimore this morning, confirmed the vote to move to the Big Ten. She cited financial and academic considerations as reasons the decision was made. "We've got to look to the future," she said when asked whether there had been strong sentiment against leaving the ACC.
