Right, Kellie had a very tough OOC which probably didn’t help with retaining her job.

Nah… it was Cardoso’s 3 point shot that buried her. She’d still be the coach if that didn’t happen

That game didn’t help, but writing was on the wall before that game. Kellie wasn’t AD Whites hire. She had a terrible record against top 25 teams, couldn’t close on elite high school talent. I’m sure White had many discussions with Kellie since he took the position, based on her SEC Now analysis this season, I’m guessing we now saw what White and Elite HS recruits experienced, Kellie wasn’t a F4 type coach. White restructured fall of 2023 NIL for women’s basketball so his new hire was supported for 24 transfer portal and future HS recruiting cycles.

TN Tonight proved they are one of the top 4 teams in the SEC with SC, Texas and KY
Don't they have to prove that by beating SEC teams? Still 9th in the standings.
I'm curious about this as well. Being 9th in the SEC doesn't provide an easy path in the tournament. Do they have enough time to improve their position before the tourney.

I disagree. I was thinking during the game that UConn's substitution patterns could prove fatal since Geno is the type of coach that relies on his starters to do the majority of the playing. I think that was part of the issue. If you're tied going into the fourth, then the advantage goes to Tennessee.

Also I think you need a more aggressive style of play to 1) get Tennessee in foul trouble so they back off a little / you earn some free throws and 2) because Tennessee's tactic is to make you start missing those open jump shots because you're playing on tired legs.

All of this is to say that I think UConn's current makeup of players and Geno's preferred style of play are a bad match up against the style of play that Coach Caldwell employs. The SEC , generally speaking, is better equipped to play a team like Tennessee. With that said, of the top SEC teams you listed, I think Kentucky's style of play and substitution patterns will be a weakness against this style of play as well.

Caldwell is surprisingly easy to like. She is very direct and honest. She really embraced the previous players and quickly made them one team. You can see the ladies enjoy playing for her...plus she's a mom.

UConn handled the press by actually winning the turnover battle and putting up more field goals attempts. We even had and made more free throws!

Still the press did drive that 3rd quarter run that put TN in the lead and got crowd back in it.

Even though you shot 28 threes vs stated goal of 30, it appeared Caldwell showed some flexibility in the second half by turning more to dribble drive, seeking out matchups against shorter, slower, foul troubled defenders. It was nice to see her get a win in a close game...just wish it was not against us.

TN had a more front loaded SEC schedule vs some of current teams ranked ahead. They still have to play LSU (again), Ole Miss, AL, and KY. Their 5 loses are against SCar, TX, LSU, OK, and Vandy. Closing out SEC season will be exciting, many good games to determine 4-9 spots for SEC tournament seeding.

Thank you. The balance of conference play will be fun to monitor and see how things play out.
