Nia Moore, a 6'3" C/F.

Initially signed with Illinois, she has now signed with Tennessee.

A 3 star player ranked outside the top 1oo with a rating of 85.

But as Maria said "So much for all this hurting recruiting".

Yep a JUCO forward and a 3 star player. Tennessee is back!

not to rub salt in their wounds, metaphorically speaking, but it sounds like they added the equivalent of Lauren Engeln and Michala Johnson. and that's no slight on Lauren or Michala - just the reality of how good they are and where they likely fit into an elite team. having said that, tho, if i look at your post, outside the top 100? seriously? maybe more like Kristen Phillips and Tijana Arblic might be a better comparison...

then again, their fans seem to think Harrison will be every bit as good as Dolson this year, so... let them have their fantasies for the time being. congrats on another pickup for them.

I guess any news about recruits verballing to Tennessee must make their fans jump for joy, but lets get real these are not top 10 recruits, or even top 50 for that matter. To keep their elite status they will have to do much better then that.

At least they now have a roster of eleven for the coming year. Just a week ago they were looking at the potential embarrassment of being a few injuries away from having no bench at all. That's progress.

Nia probably fills a bench role for the Lady Vols and is not projected as a starter for a year or two and may not even start during her Lady Vol career. It will depend on who they sign in 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes. Nia was not being recruited by the Lady Vols before she signed with Illinois.

Yes, a bench player. And maybe the very end of the bench player.

The last two signings were to fill a roster.

Y'all are fun! :)

And you're right...it is a move just to fill the roster, IMO. If our posts were to get into foul trouble, we will need a backup there.

I think it was noteworthy that it was pointed out Ms. Moore was a team mate of Ariel's in high school.

She might surprise us all and be a valuable contributor to the team. I certainly hope so. We need it.

Just having someone she knows. That will help her.
I agree with you. i'm not sure why anyone questioned the comment in the first place. IIRC, tennessee did not recruit her out of HS, so having Ariel already on the team may have easily opened the door and influenced her once she decided to de-commit from Illinois.

Question for the LV fans who visit our board (or UCONN fans who know)... is this the correct breakdown of the team (assuming the JUCO has 2 years left and is effectively part of the 2010 recruiting class, etc etc)?

SR: Spani
JR: Simmons, Williams (RS), Phillips (JUCO)
SO: Burdick, Massengale, Harrison
FR: Carter, Jones, Graves, Moore

I think that's all 11 players, correct? and are they in the right "year" (ie. "class" they will graduate with)?

Pretty sure Kamiko will be a senior (she didnt redshirt this past season).
Phillips is a soph - the news story about her transfer (see Nan's thread) said that she would have 3 yrs of eligibility left.

The reason I asked - Nia's wish list was Illinois, Auburn & Notre Dame. TN wasn't on her list. Why? Perhaps she wasn't a friend of Ariel's or perhaps she was but TN wasn't initially interested in her. Perhaps Ariel, with a year under her belt gave Nia a good rating with the TN coaches and that's why they went after her now. Thought stwainfan might be able to shed some light.

Anyone want to bet that Simmons sets a new UT record for shots taken in a season?

To better gauge my number of attempts, I need to know the overall NCAA record for shots taken!
