The Sporting News released their high school preseason all-American teams for the 2026 recruiting class. And although Edwards is ranked as 2026 #2 recruit on espn, she did not make the Sporting News list which is odd. Vukosa made the #1 team Sporting News list. Not sure what is happening there.

Edward's should be on there.

My two cents…I think Coach Caldwell could be a good coach, but she has to make adjustments because this style of play isn’t going to work against good teams. Sure, there might be an occasional upset, but good teams will negate the press. UCLA shot lights out because they went through the press like it mostly wasn’t there. The Vols had only 6 more shots than UCLA and barely won the rebounding battle. Even if UCLA shot like mortals, there’s a good chance they still win.

The announcers said Tennessee has had 7 different starting lineups. They explained the way Coach does the lineup. Something like certain amount of points for everything positive then minus the turnovers. I find that absolutely crazy

Tennessee doesn't have a set starting lineup. It's based on game by game performance.

Honestly, I feel like this is how you'd set your starting lineup if you coached a kindergarten class. I like Caldwell a lot but that's definitely not the recipe for fine-tuning your team over the course of a season. Save the gold stars for the end-of-season report cards and set your starting lineup based on collective performance.

In case anybody missed the Lady Vols' awe inspring performance,

Despite scoring 77 points, Tennessee looked rough and had a lot of defensive break downs

Basketball has its stars, but chemistry matters. Changing the starting lineup isn’t unheard of. BUT…potentially changing it EVERY game is just LUDICROUS! It’s no wonder they have so much one on one in their offensive sets. I started to count how many times they just came down and chucked it up after a pass or two, but I opted to clean out the fridge instead. TN has a lot of talent and it’s being wasted.

I am also a big believer in the "flow state". I have a hard time believing that frequent subbing allows players to get into the rhythm of the game, and if they do, they're back on the bench right when they found it.

I go back to the record Caldwell has. She has been very successful. Also remember she had to fill some numbers for the roster. This is her first freshman class. Probably after next year the numbers should even out a little more. She can build more with freshman than the transfers. Look at last year. Uconn had some early struggles. After the loss at Tennessee they played better.

Whoaah! I wonder what happened between them? Or, could it be because UCLA spanked her new team?
But seriously, it’s not a good look on Janiah’s part. However, this reaction was immediately after the game, so hopefully she’ll have time to reflect, if she so chooses.

Couldn’t agree more. I can see where this worked at Marshall where she needed to motivate players who frankly just have less to gain. But a team that’s built to play for the Final Four like Tennessee shouldn’t need single-game starting spots to motivate some of the best players and recruits in the country.

I also think it encourages a lot of isolation play. They do have excellent one-on-one players, but encouraging players to seek individual stats isn’t a winning recipe at this level.

Lastly, I just can’t see how it helps player confidence. Seems like a lot of added pressure. Shoot poorly and you’ll be on the bench the next night.

I like Kim a lot, and I think she’ll end her coaching career with a lot of major accolades. But this is a strategy I think she’ll need to overhaul.

“Built to play for the Final Four” seems like an overstatement of UT’s potential ( but you may have stated that sarcastically). They aren’t that loaded yet

Agree they aren’t there, but didn’t mean it sarcastically - Caldwell has said in multiple interviews over the last few months that their goal for the year is the FF and they’ve recruited and worked the portal with that goal in mind.

They look like a Sweet 16 team at best right now though.
