Ten best UConn players in the Rent era.

Johnny Mac the trick shot quarterback

Oh damn. You're right. I'm waxing poetic about my days at UConn, and it just dawned on me that I'm considered old as hell now...
How about Sean Mulcahy? If he didn't play in the Rent he came pretty close.

Offense- Left out Andre Dixon, Ryan Griffin, Petrus,
1 Donald Brown
2 Dan Orlovsky
3 Terry Caulley
4Will Beatty
5 Jordan Todman
6 Geremy Davis
7 Noel Thomas
8 Zach Hurd
9 Donald Thomas
10 Anthony Sherman

Defense - much more difficult than offense. Left out Moore, Gratz, several interior linemen, Smallwood, Lutrus, Whitten, and Obi.
1 Tyvon Branch
2 Darius Butler
3 Byron Jones
4 Cody Brown
5 Trevardo Williams
6 Alfred Fincher
7 Danny Lansanah
8 Lawrence Wilson
9 Kendall Reyes
10 Jasper Howard (better than Blidi)

Good job, Rock. I came here to call out #6 and I'm surprised it took so many posts to finally read someone had beat me to it.

Tyler King is another player I thought about. He was an exception defensive end. Broke his leg against Pitt his senior year where probably has an all conference season. Still came back to be Motor City Bowl defensive POG.

d ;p
A real list I'd be hard pressed to put together 10 names.

Orlovsky
Lorenzen
Cochran
Frazer
Endres
Whitmer
Shireffs

After that you're digging for 3 more names from the likes of Bones, DJ, Trick shot Johnny, and even Boyle.

Yes that's a serious list.

I would put DJ ahead of the best of the rest just because of the Pitt OT game as that is a moment I still think about a few times a year.

Running backs top ten

1: Caulley was just that good before he got hurt. He was Darren Sproles before Darren Sproles.
2: Brown who was a power back who had breakaway speed and rushed for over 2000 yards in a year
3: Todman who showed that UConn was a great place for running backs
4: Dixon who was the ying to the yang of Donald Brown
5: Cornell Brockington had two decent years and one very good year
6: Arkeel Newsome who has been solid through his three years is due for a breakout and could end up in the top 3 or 4 when all is said and done
7: Lyle McCombs who was solid but left after his junior year and had over 2600 yards during his time at UConn
8: Robbie Frey
9: Tyler Lorenzen
10: Chris Bellemy

Sherman. Anderson? Cmon man

Todman has to be in and no way does Smallwood get in over Sio. Hard task cutting it to 10 overall.

Sherman. Anderson? Cmon man

I went with just running backs and a running quarterback who couldn't throw his last year.

I would put Sherman ninth and Anderson 10th if you want to add fullbacks

Both had NFL careers. Don't h see stand the live for McConbs at all. All good though. Good preseason message board banter

I think that makes you and HCPP as the only folks that had Frey over McCombs.

I had McCombs over Frey, did you respond to the wrong person?

Matt Lawrence was a better player than the bottom four on that list.

When I made the list it was just running backs and not full backs. I could have added both fullbacks

No he wasn't. He was better then Bellemy, but not Frey nor McCombs. I might put Lou Allen above Lawrence as well.

Best P/K Returner--Tie--Nick Williams/Larry Taylor

Split it up -- Larry Taylor was the better punt returner, and Williams the better kickoff returner. In fact, I think Jasper Howard was better at punt returns than Williams, and Robbie Frey was a better kickoff returner than Taylor.

Whitmer ahead of Shirreffs, what are you, in love?

Brown would be ahead of Whitmer.

Well first this is rich coming from the guy who lectured me about what an idiot I was when I said Whitmer was a better option than Boyle.

Secondly that wasn't in any particular order. I'd actually put Shirreffs in the 2 or 3 slot on that list.

I'm sorry your list is over ten and thus is disqualified.

Seriously, nice list. I have a couple quibbles but overall nice job.
