Something doesn't sound right. If they told the bowl they needed time to discuss it with their athletes and it wasn't honored that's one thing but if they said "we'll think about it and get back to you when we can" that's another.
I think the bowl was in scramble mode... they didn't announce that Georgia Southern's opponent until late afternoon/early evening and I can't imagine their first choice was a rematch between two divisional opponents from the same conference.
My suspicion, Temple said we need time, but won't be able to pull everyone together until tomorrow and the bowl said, we've got to get it scheduled and moved on. After that they're probably getting push back from the conference (which loses out on money) and fans/players about saying no.

I think it is far more likely that bowl officials were freaking out and scrambling and really messed up here than Temple's AD bungling the request. Do we even know who the source was that said Temple declined? Because if it came from a bowl source, it wouldn't surprise me they tried to glaze this over to cover their mistake.

There's always been that "behind the curtain" of the bowl committees trying to get themselves paid. I used to think it was cool that I could channel surf and find a game at any time for a few weeks. Don't have that kind of time any more.
