Location location location. You play home games in a NFL stadium, reside in the same city, not to mention, it's a football state. Took your lumps 10 years ago and eventually got things rolling and haven't looked back. Please don't pitch there's good football in CT too. Fact is we're still not at the same level as what goes on in PA. I think we had too many "knowitalls" at the top here in Storrs that ruined what was being built here. They actually sabotaged things (looking wayyy too far ahead when we still had a lot of work to do)

Temple is a cesspool and hasn’t been a good program for most of its history. Tulane played at the Superdome and sits in Grade A recruiting territory and was trash most it’s existence. None of it holds water. No, We simply screwed it up.

Back when Temple got booted out of the Big East they were simply not investing in the program. UConn similarly is not investing the program. Paying a HC 1 million and the coordinators about 700k, combined, well you get what you paid for.

If we are not going to admit the kids Temple does because we think we are above them, then we will repeatedly fall below them. Look at their front 7 (all of whom can play on Sunday) and ask yourself how many of them would have gotten past the nimrods in the admissions office.

This times a million. Lots of things wrong with this program: Last 3 coaching hires could not have been worse, honestly. Terrible decision to go to basketball conference leaves football out to dry. Coaching salaries scream small time.

But if we loosened academic requirements a tad we could eventually field a competitive team. Great facilities.

Don’t have to take every questionable academic player, but what about 30%? Would have been sweet to have some of the players that wanted to come here but couldn’t get in. All conference type players and even an all American linebacker.

There aren’t that many P5 Programs that want solid MAC HCs. If you are 7-9 win MAC, there are few P5 contracts. UConn is still a payday increase of $400-700k.

I think UConn's roster has the most talent they have had under RE 2.0, but the inexperience at QB, unfortunately, pushed the turnaround back another year. If Pindell was still around this year, the perception of the turnaround would be different.

Yup, this in a nutshell is why Edsall deserves and will likely get another year.

They have also created an identity too. Temple is going to hit you and push you around. They are going to play physical. It works because Temple is never going to be able to recruit at the level of talent that the FL and TX schools do. They can however out effort and play physically to offset that.

We used to do this. Not so long ago. Bad decisions by the powers that be got us back to square one unfortunately

Of course it doesn't help when Coach P doesn't give Matkevitch the time of day when the kid is in our back yard - and then he goes to Temple and is a beast for years and then plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Temple is a State U. It has the advantage of being in a football hotbed vs New England.

Go to a recruiting site like 247 Sports and count how many players from CT go to FBS programs. UConn has slim pickings to choose from after the P5 schools raid the state.

7 of the Top 22 players in the state went to FCS schools.

In Texas, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, there are plenty of good FBS players left to choose from after the P5 schools take their pick.

Are these the facts? I don't remember grades out of Milford Academy being the issue. I remember P just not thinking he was good enough.

So essentially:

1. Hire new staff: offensive minded head coach from lower level that has successful head coaching experience. Somehow convince inept athletic department to add significantly to coaching salary pool. Hire a few assistants that are dynamic, enthusiastic recruiters.

2. Relax admission standards for 35% of incoming recruits. Put a plan in place for academic support and monitoring to make sure student athletes are performing well.

3. Hire recruiting coordinator with a vision for areas of recruitment within area. Focus recruiting budget on these areas and stop recruiting west coast.

I do not have first hand knowledge, but I am quite sure that has long been in place. At this level, all schools have this aspect fully developed.
