Tell this new(ish) fan about the good times

There were some glimmers of hope during the dark years. Houston came to the Rent in 2015 undefeated looking to climb the ranks. Yeah, no. The only game I took my daughter to and it was a good one.

This occurred shortly after one the players, Jasper Howard, was killed during an altercation. Seeing UConn battle and beat the golden domers was magical. I was a UConn grad student during that game, and honestly it made me just as proud as when UConn beat Puke in BBall for their title.

That game got ND coach fired. ND had a terrible team that year.

Honestly there were a lot of great memories there and we had legit teams. Crowds were great most of the time. You cant have top memories of the Rent without adding Michigan. It sadlly was the beginning of the dark days but even though we lost it was a fantastic night.

Rod Rodriguez the head coach of Michigan was fired that year. Three coaches were fired the year they played UConn - ND, West Virginia and Michigan.
 
I think there is a lot of rose colored glasses of how good UConn was during that time since UConn was in a very weak Big East football conference. It would be great for UConn to get to that level again. But being honest those UConn teams were average to below average P4 teams and would get blown out by good FBS teams. But again those teams would be good enough to be a mediocre team in the BIG and SEC conferences.
 
Edsall's first go around was built around a very physical brand of football. What we lacked in talent in the skill positions we made up for with grit and solid defense. You knew you were in for fight with UCONN back then.

Then P and D came and that all went out the windor with their idea of goo knows what to keep the program moving forward.

2002 we had a tough schedule and were 2-6 then ripped off 3 wins before heading out to play Iowa St on the road. No one gave us a chance. Ended up 6-6 on the reg season.

Was in the second level east side when Lutrus returned his INT for a TD in our corner.. The energy level in the building was unbelievable. We had Tyler Lorenzen, Anthony Sherman, Andre Dixon, Donald Brown and D J Hernandez in our backfield. Think about that. Our D was filled with talent. And each game was a dogfight. The old BE was good. Mora is trying to get us back but it is a huge hill to climb with no conference.

It actually hurts to watch it, great as it was. It's like a 70 year old seeing a picture of their younger self and saying, "ahh to be 40 again. Did I ever actually feel that good, do those things etc". Same as hoops during the dark years and look where we are now. We found the Ponce de Leon Fountain of Youth so to speak. Can we find the same Fountain in FB? Let's keep trying. To quote Captain Karaban, "push through".

I remember when it really started pouring at one point in that game, the whole crowd just said screw it and stood up and started cheering even louder. Crowds used to deafening. Student section would be full and it was electric when the opposing team was pinned in front of that end zone. That USF game might be my favorite.
 
Rentschler actually put in an extra 5,000 seats or so the year we played Michigan and Maryland back to back if you can believe that.

That was an epic moment. It was like crowd was saying "Is that all you got?"
