68-58 Michigan defeats Belmont. Not too impressive of a win. They had a turnover issue today.

Michigan did play tough defense throughout though. And they maximized their free points at the free throw line.

I say it every time I watch Michigan. But I can see why UConn wanted Olson.

I am hoping to see Michigan play Va Tech tomorrow.

I think Michigan is good. But may be a bit overrated. In addition to the Va Tech game. I want to see them against Oklahoma.

Not sure what you mean by overrated. They weren't expected to do much based on pre-season conference rankings. There was hype around their highly touted recruiting class with the likes of Swords and Olson. To me, they seem to be exceeding the expectations of some based on how they've started the season.

I feel like the opinion on them changed with the South Carolina performance. They immediately appeared in ESPN bracketology following the loss.

They are basically 26th in the country and almost certainly will be ranked if they beat Va Tech tomorrow. Vanderbilt and Tennessee are two teams that impress me that are below them in the “receiving votes” section.

So, I wouldn’t call them grossly overrated in the top 25. But I think they fit better in 30-40 range.

Totally fair, but like I said, they are exceeding expectations at this point, especially considering who left and the youth on their roster. Pre-season rankings have them finishing outside of the top 10 of the conference. Don't think many thought they'd start the season the way they have.

I am still on the fence about Michigan. I made the trip back to Ann Arbor to watch their games against CMU and Oakland to watch in person and it was tough to gauge. The South Carolina game raised some eyebrows in terms of what could be on the horizon. We shall see what develops. I will be watching their match up later today against VA Tech. BTW, Way to Michigan Football!! Go Blue!! :);)

Minus the whole flag mess. SMH

Anyone ready to talk about Maryland?
What about Maryland? They've been what I expected so far. Conference play will be the measuring stick more than non-conference in my opinion.

I don’t think they are a top 10 team. And they don’t have the resume that justifies putting them in the top 10. I would have them fairly high. But the placement would be tepid and I am waiting for other teams to move up.

I would move Duke and TCU ahead of them for sure.

And I understand that they beat Duke. But it was a home game. Duke has a way better resume. And I like duke’s chances on a neutral floor.

The Terps escape George Mason 66-56. Te-Biasu played 35 minutes and scored 1 point. She might be overwhelmed at this level.

Good win for Michigan. They stepped up the competition a bit and still managed two wins. I am still curious to see them against better competition. And it is the Oklahoma game and conference play that will tell us how good they are.

Iowa with a miraculous 8-0 start without Caitlin Clark. Their March Madness experience will be a complete non-factor late in the season.

The schedule helped. I don’t think they have an upset win. I probably like the road win over Drake more than any other. And I think Drake has 5 losses (did beat Washington state today though).

That's fair but we're still early in the season. Look at where ISU started to where they are now. Duke will likely see a jump this week with their recent performance.

Coach Moseley quietly has Wisconsin off to their strongest start since 2018. Sitting at 7-2. Congrats, Coach Moseley!
It's easy to be very good when you have a franchise player. Williams is a great player.

Not sure if progress is being made. The Badgers have played 2 teams with D1 winning records, and lost to both. Badgers went 7-3 in non-conference play last season, including a loss at home to Butler. Next non-conference game is at Butler, which would be a good win for Badgers, and evidence of progress.

Conference play will be interesting for the Badgers. They are one of the losers with the new BiG schedule, getting UCLA, USC, OSU and Maryland all at home, meaning more winnable games are on the road. The BIG erred in not splitting OSU and Maryland from USC and UCLA for purposes of home-road scheduling. Will really impact conference standings.

For the Syla Swords fans. Came across this article about her father Shawn and his coaching journey, by Doug Smith of the Toronto Star. Great article and insight on one of Swords' biggest influences. Not behind a paywall from what I can tell.

I think UConn should try everything to land Savannah Swords. But maybe she is a lock for Michigan too; and it is a waste of time trying to recruit her?

Haven't gotten any indication there was any interest from either side. Gut feeling is no however. Most likely is a waste of time at this point, but you never know considering UConn has a connection with the director of her AAU team, Richard Nurse.

Even though Iowa beat Rhode Island and BYU in Cancun with Lucy Olsen playing zero minutes due to injury, they did commit 45 turnovers in those two games. Through 5 games Tennessee has forced 30 turnovers/game; that is terrifying for Iowa even with Lucy Olsen. I'd have trouble betting on Iowa vs the Vols.

The Iowa State game is in Iowa City which will be sold out to Iowa season ticket holders, so a nice home court advantage. Crooks will be a handful but Iowa has two 6'4" posts that will challenge her. Iowa State relies on the 3 and Iowa isn't the greatest at defending the arc; if ISU shoots 40% plus on treys it'll be a close game. If Iowa defends the 3 well I think Iowa will prevail.

I come from a place of really desiring a recruiting pipeline for UConn in Canada and in New York. I see all of these Long Island Lutheran girls as missed opportunities. I even look at players like Sonia Citron with envy. I am hoping we can get Makeer. But I think it is unlikely.

Where Makeer goes is anyone's guess, including UConn fans.

When it comes to Canadian recruits, UConn has had mixed results in Canada. While they're seen at the preeminent program, they don't hold the same cache like they used to it seems.
