I’ve noticed from watching St. John’s houston etc these teams physically are bigger and are tougher on d than I remember
I don’t see mahaney as lead guard matching up favorably on either side

Nebraska was very physical against Kalkbrenner. The muscled him, held him, doubled him, and Creighton couldn't take advantage.

I'm not too worried about this happening to us. The coaching staff has been through enough rock fights to know how to plan for them, and the talent is there to not need to rely only on one player. They'll try it with Alex but...

Not really. Houston same two bigs and is always tough & physical. Duke got tougher with better size and talent. Looks the same to me.

With his passing ability and size, Jaylin needs to be a point 4 rather than a wing and play big. We're going to need some beef in the conference battles, and he's got some. And I think we're going to need him to match up with Omier when Baylor gets here. That's going to be a tough cover for anyone else.

Been feeling this for a long time - needs to find his identity outside of being a wing and perimeter oriented. He’s strong and should use it, and ditch the 3 point shooting for awhile. I still don’t really know what he is in this rotation. Would be great to see rebounds, interior takes, put backs, interior defense and passing the balls well.

If people want a rock fight with UConn, UConn goes 11 deep. It won't be a sound strategy. UConn can hack back and force the refs to call it tighter. And if the refs won't call it tight, it'll come down to 3s.
This is what we are banking on.

A lot of this lies in the hands of the refs. Big East games have traditionally been more physical than the NCAA tourney. I got tired of seeing T. Newton get hammered every time he drove down the lane. It is what it is. We have a lot of depth and can adjust. From Hurley's more recent comments I think we will see more surprises from our bench in different combinations depending on the opponent and refs "style". Trust in Dan Hurley. He has a football side to him as well. :)

It is still a team with new components overall and It might be awhile before we get the will, toughness and swagger which can only be earned the hard way on the court, sometimes through painful losses. This is going to be very difficult and the idea that we are riding on a yellow brick road to a 3 peat is absurd.

Yeah Hurley going 11 deep into bench will probably be at an admission that starting 5-7 ain’t working out as he’d hoped. So rather than out execute it’s gonna be more about we are gonna out run and out endure with our hockey waves.

Once again, we are jumping the gun here. Let’s talk at 5 pm tomorrow.

Or going with 10 guys could be a way to press the opponent more and simply wear down a team going with 7 or 8 players and win the last 5 to10 minutes.

Can we get back from Maui first? Gotta play some Top 15 comp before we assess our potential.
NO. No need. We are good. Very good. Maybe not as good as last year, and that’s maybe, but still better than most teams this year. I have not seen anyone clearly better than us.

Totally - can’t come soon enough. Couple points made that were totally valid is that maybe this group was just bored last game.
Real season starts tomorrow.

Aiden will be fine, by March everyone is going to be loving him and people will act as if these threads never existed

If any fan base should realize it's all about gelling, it should be us. That was Jim Calhoun's MO. Throw in 2011, 2014 and 2023, and it becomes c'mon people, give it a rest already

Shame shame shame

Enjoy the ride, there's going to be bumps, and we're not going to win the national championship every year. Although unlike JC who was NIT bound every fourth year, I think Dan Hurley keeps us dancing and in the mix

I think I’m spot on. Mahaney will not match. Up for us defensively
First adjustment start Diarra and Reed
Move no well to back up pg
Mahaney. Specialty player

And please never play zone defense

Do you do voice to text for your posts? They're hard to read like that.

It seems like a bunch of people here do that. I had honestly never even imagined someone would use voice-to-text for forum posts before seeing people talk about it here.

There's no Mahaney on the roster.

Not ready to give up on Mahaney, but I think it's safe to say he won't be Cam Spencer reincarnated. On the bright side, Reed is an absolute monster and will be one of the best big men in the country. Hurley hit it out of the park with that pickup.

He will certainly take time, but he had secondary ball handling duties at St Mary’s. He is not a natural pass first PG. Forcing him into that role for too long will hurt the team.
