In the six victories that constituted UConn's run in this year's tournament, including three against number one seeds, the six opponents averaged 54 points per game. One observation I've made over the years is that 54 points is a very tough number with which to achieve victory. Another is that success on that end of the court is all about coaching. No additional commentary required!

They looked remarkably connected on D through the post season. Every player in a stance moving their feet, every player talking, active hands disrupting passing lanes... great coaching and great execution and focus by the players.

And only one game in the tournament did our opponent reach 60 points!!!
And better yet, after our loss to TN, only that same team reached 60 points!!!!!!! This includes both games against SoCar!!!! DEFENSE WINS GAMES!!!!!

FWIW: I originally posted this on the Postgame thread.

The defense was stifling.

Jana held Kitts to 3-10 yesterday, and blocked about 5 entry passes to Betts. Sarah blocked shots and contested Edwards and Kitts like mad. Paige is an anticipation defender, and will contest if she knows an entry pass is trying to be made or if there's an easy deflection to be had. Azzi is just scrappy and absolutely made life miserable for Lay especially when she was trying to bring the ball up. Chen, KK, and Ash just make every guard/wing's life a living hell.

This teams defense improved dramatically during the season and became the best defense I've seen from a UConn team. everyone was moving their feet, covering space, help defense from the guards on doubles, contest of shots...remarkable job!

Their defense is perhaps the very best I've seen in WCBB. Considering that I'm 85 and have watched tons of women's teams through the past 35 years, that's saying a lot. I agree with you, but , I go one further, The Uconn defense is the best ever this year. I will get a lot of flak with this ststement, but that is how I see it. I In a little over 3 months I will be 92 and that is my opinion KUDOS to the coaches and players for a very memorial season and Troghy.Huskies are NO1.

Yes! And when Geno inserted the Tornado Twosome (KK and Ash), the game changed time after time.
Soooo true those two are disorienting to a opponents offense, did anyone notice tht after Paopao scored SCs first points of the game (a 3 pointer) tht she basically fell asleep on the court? A total no-show.

Being able to defend a player and then hand-off that player in a switch after a screen in encountered ... that switch technique at UConn is beautifully performed! Of course, you have to have a player tall enough to switch with the opponents big; Nika could tell you all about that part!

And if you've watched closely the Huskies know how to score against tht same switching defense....clever

I noticed something about Paopao, she's a deadly 3 point shooter when she's 100% open. When she's not 100% open, not so much. I was screaming all game, "just stay on her". And they did (they don't often listen to me...)

She got that one good look which she hit in the first minute of the game and after that she was ineffective the entire rest of the game.

Just a perusal of SC’s stats is very satisfying. Our defense on them was fantastic

I said all year, make sure you see this team live and when you do, watch them on defense. Pick out a particular player and watch her through the entire possession. I have never seen better switching from a college team, men's or women's. Then there is the anticipation, the hands, the smarts, the great communication. Yes, the best defensive team I can remember and I have seen them all since 1995.

That must be why you have to keep repeating yourself. :D
If you happen to see
a post repeatedly
Then you always just.....

I'm in school every day!
I meant your year in school determines the MOP. Sorry about that, I didn't mean to sound mean, I was just a little shocked that Sarah didn't win the MOP.
