TCU to B12 done deal

If I were the Big East, I would waive the $ 5 Million exit fee as a gesture of good will. TCU never played an official game in conference. The gesture could pay dividends down the line.

I'd offer TCU the option avoiding the fee if they agree to a home and home football set (within the next half dozen years) with each of the six remaining BE football members.

What are you talking about? How will TCU ever help us? I like $5 million.

Grabbing that $5M from a school that never was a part of the conference would show the lack of class that permiated the conference after BC left. How about wishing them well and working out a football schedule as ffldcountyfan suggested? That would be a terrific way to go. I'd also seek a deal with ACC re letting Syr and Pitt go early. Having better OOC games with FL St, NC St, and Ga Tech, etc coupled with their payback would be of greater benefit than forcing them to stay.

Right, the BE never delivered on what it promised TCU, so why take their money. But I like FCF's idea.

I agree, but this is business. TCU knew they were entering an unstable situation. I like being classy through this process, but being a stupid doormat isn't necessarily wise either. I'm not sure that playing nice is working for the Big East lately. I think we stay firm on the 5 mill, unless a better situation can be worked out as Fairfield suggested. No way do we play total nice guy though.

I absolutely see this instance as one where the goodwill that can be developed (along with the possibility of a school that down the road could easily help a BE member or two that is in a scheduling bind) would be worth far more to each BE football member than their portion of the departure fee.

From the perspective of the hoops only members, TCU's addition over the next few years was merely one of an extra mouth to feed that would not provide any additional value to the product. Their decision not to join can be viewed (over the near term) as a financial benefit to them.

The idea of having a friend in another BCS conference, one who will provide some scheduling relief (per my suggestion of a home and home with each of the six) who also will would believe they should be willing to reciprocate a favor to one or more of these schools if an when the need arrives (not to mention a visit to a very rich recruiting area) would have tremendous value. Sometimes there is a bigger picture than merely the immediate financial gain.

Thanks for embellishing my thoughts & putting them more eloquently than I ever dreamed of!

Love the idea. Also always good to have an ally in the BCS negotiations.

Yes, but that presumes the likes of underfunded athletic departments such as Seton Hall, DePaul, St. John's, or PC are thinking of or care about a current or future football conference.
