If the NCAA passes the 5 year rule and seniors could return would Tarris come back?

That would tighten up the interior (I still think it’s a bit weak, not sure if giltay fits, is he better then reibe?) and make us preseason number 1 (you may be able to play Hines, reed, and khamenia if you HAD to (big team like Michigan or if he needs to keep them happy)

If it’s natty or bust Reed could be the answer.

How many productive minutes can he get from Hines? Big step up playing with the hall vs. a national contender.

I’m wondering if Hurley has thought about this?

Not sure why people are dismissing this idea. If (and it’s big if) the ncaa passes this rule for current seniors it would be a very real possibility. Would ultimately be up to Tarris.

Where’s his NIL money coming from when we’re tapped out?
You can make that same argument for any other school. You think the entire college sports landscape wouldn’t immediately adapt to a new, groundbreaking change to the system?

12 comments in 10 years? Why change?

Mara had 8/4 in NC game against us. Not sure what this fascination with him is. He's much more effective against teams like AZ who constantly drive to the rim. We rarely do that.

Even if such were possible, is there even enough money for Reed at this point?

Would he gamble on some NIL money to play himself into a possible Round 1 next year?

Draft boards put him into the upper tier of round 2, which might give him some kind of guaranteed money.

While none of us really know the answer on what NIL is out there, Hurley's plea for more commitment from businesses and state government to support the program, seems to imply such is a need.

I’d guess he sees his draft stock at an all time high after a dominant March madness run and wants to go all in on that

If you don’t like the Reed idea, please explain how we compete with Michigan’s interior next year.

If it’s natty or bust this is a fair question.
Let me ask a serious question. Do you think in putting this team together we’ve reserved the cash to pay what it would cost to sign a first team all American out of the blue? If so, ask the question. If not, why are you bothering?

And if you think “it’s natty or bust” every single year, I truly feel sorry for you.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about anyone in this senior class returning, even if the rule is approved. From what I’ve heard, the expectation is that it would not apply retroactively.

My daughter plays field hockey at Duke (I know), and this has been discussed at that level as well—it was even brought up at the NCAA conference in January. At that time, the NCAA declined to extend a fifth year to Division II and III until the Division I situation is resolved which had been voted down I believing November or December of 25.

Based on what I’ve been told by her and her coaching staff, it’s trending toward approval—but Of more importantly, it’s expected to take effect starting the following season after approval
That would mean current seniors would not be eligible. My daughter is a Junior and if it’s approved before next season she would be eligible but it doesn’t get approved until during next season she most likely will not get the 5th year.

We will outshoot them according to other posters.
Right...Don't forget, we have a 34% 3pt shooter coming back who is not particularly strong physically, 2 transfers who played <20 minutes a game who each averaged 6 points a game last year, and a freshman recruit coming in to round out 4/5 of our starting lineup. Someone in another thread got their head chewed off for stating that an awful lot of things need to go right for this year's team to even approach last year's success. We have talent, but it's unproven and inexperienced. Last year's team had a MUCH higher floor than this one does. It may realistically take a year of experience from many of our starters before they realize potential. Losing Solo was a massive hit to the scoring potential on this year's team. We can hope... but on paper, assuming regular retention, 2027-28 looks a lot more promising than this year does

What freshman recruit is playing the 4-5 of our starting lineup? The rest of it I agree with. Too much unproven potential compared to this past year and so much would have to go right. I want them to be great but right now I like to be reaslist and not sure we will be challenging for a national champion in 26-27. We will be good but a step down based on who we have presently on the roster. Losing Karaban, Reed, Smtih an Stewart is a lot of experience and continuity to lose on the team. Mullins igoing to have to explode for us to be anywhere close to good which is possible but is an unknown.

I disagree with every thought you’ve expressed but with respect to this “higher floor” thing last years team got tough at the right time but we spent most of the Big East season panicking about how bad the team was and how their floor was so low they could lose to any team in the country. I get that people are just chicken littles but the revisionist history made me laugh.

Also, if all these guys need a year of experience what are Demery and Mullins going to look like next year? Better or worse than this year? You think worse?

Not me, I trust Hurley and enjoy the ride. I personally think last seasons run was extremely special

Hurley has said we do not hang final four banners, therefore for him it’s championships or nothing. Hurley is a mad scientist, I have him as the best coach in the sport, he thinks of everything. A video shared in this string discusses the possibility.
