I posted this in the game thread last night but why aren't we getting the ball to Tarris Reed? He's totally unstoppable and an automatic bucket on the block.

This doesn't seem to be a problem of our guys not being able to make an entry pass like we saw years ago at UConn. It seems to be an intent problem, like it's not even a part of the plan to try and dump it into him a bunch. I don't get it. I know our offense is really good but having him feasting down low would further unlock things for Solo, AK, etc. and it's an automatic two points for Tarris.

On a team that has trouble with all our perimeter players getting to the rim outside of Hass and Liam who is now hurt it makes no sense we aren't riding our Hoss. It was really frustrating we had three cracks at winning the game on our final possession and we never got it into Reed.

Said this against Providence. When our offense gets repetitive and slow moving, there’s no reason not to dump it down to him. He pretty much always gets a high quality shot.

It’s frustrating. I don’t really like to say much because the staff has been so successful. However, the use of Reed and Ross has been baffling. Reed is unstoppable. Ross isn’t ready. Meanwhile, Stewart hasn’t had enough minutes.

I’m hopeful that Reed, Stew and Nowell will get quite a few minutes in the coming month, that’s how we’ll compete for a FF. We need low post scoring, offensive creativity and another PG. We have them, they just need time to develop and mesh.

Have not seen many teams be able to consistently stop Tarris in the low post this year. His teammates have to look for him and/or his coaches have to "call" his number. Seems pretty automatic to me for either a bucket or FTs. Saw him a few times in second half floating around the foul line undefended or defender seriously sagging off of him.. With his FT%s you would think he could either hit a few foul line jumpers and/or attack the rim from there.

Tarris Reed struggled mightily on defense.
Yes, he had blocks early. Then Nova went 5 out and it absolutely destroyed him.
Samson isn't great in a 5-out either.

Stew looked like an all-american defenseman last night against Dixon...without him we lose by 25.

Liam is such a safety blanket on defense as well.

It doesn't seem right. But there must be s reason. It clearly seemed like either AK or Hass were the options. I didn't like the shot he took but I did like the idea of Hass driving and hopefully going to the line as he is ice water in those situations. My guess is you have 3-4 options out there with guys you can trust and you have to pick someone. I'm only against the AK move in retrospect because he missed.

I’ve seen Mahaney drive the basket and score in traffic or with a defender on his tail, numerous times. He can be pretty shifty driving to the hoop.

Reed has looked great a lot of this season.

Generally when he's looked good on offense, we're getting the ball to him in good spots when he has an ideal matchup, switch mismatch, or he's got a runway off a set play. The Memphis game where they were switching everything, Xavier with Traore/Freemantle out, etc.

I honestly forget the game but a couple back, we went to him as a primary guy a few times on the block without a favorable matchup and it looked terrible. He faced up and spun and turned it over multiple times. It was an example of doing the opposite of what Hurley has been preaching for Tarris this year, which is to keep it simple.

I think he's a weapon this year we use when the circumstances are right, and a featured guy next season.

I've seen Mahaney do that....in one game maybe. He didn't score again last night. Thought the light had come on from him but maybe it's one step forward two steps back.

I wonder if he was limited because the game plan for nova may have been more D focused than O given Novas play this year. Their guys are bigger too and I think that's why we saw more A.N and Ross. But I expected our O to play way better against that poo poo defense.

I preach patience, even though it's a bit obvious. Hurley is paragon of old school when it comes to loyalty, and familial tradition and culture of pecking order. Also there was a succession promise made from him to convince Samson to stay over after Sanogo and Clingan.

Reed is a new kid on the block. If there is any indication from Dan's submission to the idea of Ross experiment being over, Reed is next in line to start in place of Samson.

Give it time....

What?

He's beaten double teams more often than the few times you just mentioned

I was shocked they weren't going to him in the block last night against Nova. Would've helped to make Dixon work harder on D.

I still don't get why Reed doesn't start
I’ve been wondering that all year. Really think Reed should be getting more minutes, and I feel Samson will shine better off the bench. I know Reed was in foul trouble last night, but I was still baffled we didn’t bring him in sooner during the second half

Both him and Jaylin were needed
much earlier in the 2nd half. By the time they came back we were a bit disjointed.
