Tarris Reed Jr. Practice highlights

Good feetwork as shaq says. he fills a huge hole with his low post scoring. The only guy in the team with those skills. If he can be a poor man’s sanogo I like our chances to 3peat.

My blurb on Reed:

Johnson will battle for a starting spot with Michigan transfer Tarris Reed. The 6’10 265 junior from St. Louis profiles as a classic big man after ranking in the top-ten in Big Ten conference in offensive and defensive rebounding rates and block rates.

Blessed with a 7’4 wingspan, Reed’s footwork, creativity and ability to finish with either hand will make him an essential weapon in Hurley’s inventive half-court sets. According to EvanMiya.com, Reed finished as Michigan’s third most efficient defender, which is a feat in itself since Michigan ranked as the Big Ten’s least efficient defense. KenPom.com also ranked Michigan as the Big Ten’s second least efficient offense, so although Tarris Reed improved throughout his time at Michigan, there is reason to hope that his game will take another big step forward playing amongst more talented and well-coached teammates.

Hes a very talented kid. If it comes together for him he could be special here. If he emerges as a force this season this team will look more similar to the 23 team than the 24 team which was a whole different animal. Good thing is we dont have to be that because that was ridiculous. Possibly the best mens college team of the past 30 years.

Is there more than just still pictures that posters are seeing in this thread?

Maybe you didn't swipe through images? Only some are videos but the videos have play button symbols on them.

He likes that spin move.
Yes he does. He looks good/fluid doing it too. Not that you can tell from just a few highlights, but it kind of looks like that's his go to move. That would be easy for defenses to exploit.

For me, this guy is the difference in us being really good or great. We have two established locks in Alex and Hassan. And so many options in the other 2 spots. The 5 is the place that we need to lock down.

Samson either needs to make a massive leap, as he is not a high caliber starting center based on last year.

Or Reed needs to polish off the game and be the beast he can be without all the mistakes. He has the higher upside, excited to see how it plays out.

Yeah we’ve had a MASSIVE advantage at the 5 spot over the past two seasons. These guys can’t replicate that but we need excellent play from them.

Hurley isn't shy about saying that he likes having a change up in center coming off the bench so that teams that are getting used to banging against a big guy suddenly have to adjust with increased athleticism, or vice versa. Our existing centers aren't going to have a Clingan or Sanogo level of impact in terms of dominant size, but they are going to be able to deliver that change up in style that Hur believes is important to our success.

Samson not going to give up on being a starter, I'm sure that all his offseason homework is being attacked with a vengeance.

Interested to see what Reed brings on the defensive end. Looks like he will be pretty tough to handle offensively. Am I wrong in saying that he is a bit bigger than Adama, maybe appreciably? Can't imagine he's as physically strong as "Nogo" Sanogo was.

Looks like if Reed develops quickly, we could lose Samson and Tarris at the end of this year.

Said it on our podcast with Hassan. Reed looks similar to Alex Oriahki, only Reed gets off the floor faster.
