Tarris Reed Jr Out vs Arizona

To be honest, I didn’t consider it a “break” when we played BYU - I am consistent in this belief.

Switching to football, look at what happened to Syracuse when QB went down - they over there are sulking.

If Joe F goes down for injury - hopefully not - but if he did we’ve got Evers to step right in. Now excuses, play the game.

All of this shouldn’t be taken to seriously as this is just “fan talk” there is not right/wrong belief.

But for me I don’t like the whole concept of alluding to what could have been - you’ve got to be ready as a team for injuries - cut/dry.
Not really apples to apples. In high level football, losing a QB is essentially game over. Most NFL teams don’t even have a great starter let alone a good backup. Basketball you can get creative with a missing piece for a few games but not long term.

OK, that is one that I do not agree with. Every division one college coach should be at least two deep at the quarterback position with that backup ready to go. If they did not properly recruit + prepare a back up then so oh well, get ready to play in the toilet bowl or maybe no bowl.

Frankly, I love Joe, but Nick Evers looks prepared to step in there and we do have a second starter on the team. And if you want to play among the best, this is what those teams do.

Syracuse was not one of those teams this year.

Injuries should be expected to happen not like oh my gosh I can’t believe we lost a star player. You’ve got to just build that team and hope for the best. Again, this is if you want to be the best. And not everyone can be the best that is for sure. Doesn’t mean you’re bad but if you want to be an elite program, whether in basketball or football, no excuses.

People like to say "no excuses" and stuff like that because it sounds stoic or whatever, but in reality, if a team is missing one of its best players because of an injury, it's a break for the other team. I don't understand the mentality of pretending every player has equal ability, and that injuries don't impact a team's performance. What is UConn supposed to do now, pretend that they don't have answers down low and go out and recruit a center? Gee, I hear Tarris Reed will be available soon. Maybe we should try to sign him.
People say this these days because they hear it regarding Football all the time. Football is a contact, violent sport where injuries are part of the game, where having quality depth is a must. Basketball is not nearly as physical and injuries aren't really a huge factor when comparing. So when they do happen, it really causes a drop in talent, size, experience, etc.

"We need to take the court with a very high-level of rage and (being) pissed-off," Hurley said on Wednesday, following UConn's "brutal," 71-67 loss to No. 4 Arizona at Gampel Pavilion.

Why is everyone supposed to be angry (like him) at their "shameful" loss and make up for it by taking it out on a weak sister?????? Maybe they should just should take care of business like men instead of childish emotion reactions. Grow up.

He's a two time national champion. He's doesn't need advice from behind a screen from a nobody like you.

Because the “weak sister” is a D1 basketball program on the schedule which is UConn’s last chance to re-establish dominance in game before back to back power teams

True. Sports are generally emotionless. Especially at the collegiate level.

What a weird comment.

Remember that final "cupcake" game ever year before Xmas break under Calhoun? Usually at the HCC. And often played like the guys were already halfway home & thinking about mom's cooking and hangin with friends and family.
Yeah. JC loved those games. LoL

Sparking your team emotionally is an age old coaching tactic, especially with college kids. They aren’t robots.

FWIW Bryant is a huge team as was noted by the @HeyAdrien scouting report they have four starters listed at 6’8” or bigger.

If Reed is out again and don’t think we see Mullins, we better be ready to play. We could get killed on the boards unless we make it a focus.

Clearly we are way more talented but if we do have a “were gonna win just by showing up attitude” things could get tighter than we want.

I really don’t understand why anyone would criticize our highly successful coach on whatever he says in a post game presser especially after a loss. Especially since he just saw that down what more than likely are our two best players and two of our next best players having horrible games we almost won.

When you can steal a big game against a quality opponent being down your two biggest guns and you don’t because a few basic things like free throws and max effort on rebounding every shot are really the main reasons you lost, I think a coach has to put some pressure on the team.

I know we don’t know anything about Reed playing but if he is not then we better come out like he says because just like you can steal a game you are not supposed to win without your two best players you can just as easily lose a game against a lesser opponent who knows you are ripe to upset.

They just got out rebounded by Virgina Tech 38-24, and are 1-4. We get outbounded by them without Tarris it will be concerning as to how soft this team is without him. Guys like AK and Stew need to step up. No excuses, it’s Bryant.

The whole notion of “no excuses” means you don’t lay down just because it’s ok to lose now because you have an excuse. It’s a mentality not a rule.

So when you play hard, despite missing two starters, and only lose by 4 to a top five team, you can look at it objectively and use the excuse that we probably would have won if we had them.

So yeah, we caught a break against BYU. And Arizona caught one against us. That happens in sports.

Perfectly stated.

Well, I don’t agree with your take. I respect it.

I looked around a bit and can't find anything on Reed's condition. Does anyone have any info? At this point, I'm not even sure what Reed's injury is, ankle, high ankle, back, tick bite? He probably sits regardless.

Maybe this an opportunity to see that Giant dude from Europe for a few minutes. That would be fun.
