All BE 1st team next year if we create a gameplan that utilizes him
He is capable but he needs Riebe to open things up for him. He is an old school power forward.

It's just nice to have a center down on the blocks or in the lane even, that we can throw a pass into, and he can score utilizing skill and strength. Same goes for grabbing a rebound and powering it back up. On the defensive side, an athletic and strong center, playing with power, getting rebounds and disrupting the opposing offense. It is essential.

He is so frustrating to watch. He is either really good or completely lost out there. Nice to see him step it up in the 2nd half but would live to see some more consistency from him.

Came alive with some serious intensity. Major factor in the W. If he can play they kind of D and play low post with that energy, things change.

Well Hurley wanted him to turn into a Kodiak bear and he was all that last night.

Showed some toughness and grit. Even with his late game injury. If he can bring this version of himself to MSG on Sunday. He can make life miserable for Ejifor (sp?).

He needs to start. Samson gives us nothing offsensively outside of lobs. With a lack of PG play, we NEED someone that can be back to the basket to give us a different look. I think coming in off the bench makes Tarris passive and not agressive.

the Hurley postgame thread turned into the Reed Appreciation thread. Lots of good discussion and generally I think most agree he needs to play. More.

someone stated TRJ averages 5.4 fouls per 40 minutes. 19.8 minutes per game, 2.7 fouls per game. I say let him foul out every game. Feed Reed and give him as much pt as possible heading into post season. OK, reel it in a bit. But he needs to dial up the motor and learn to foul less. No use keeping him on the bench with 3 fouls and wasting his minutes. He should get 20 minutes minimum averaging a double-double.

We lost to SJU without McNeeley but Reed played 32 minutes, 12 points, 15 rebounds, 3 fouls.

The start Tarris convo is silly. It's been entirely matchup dependent between Samson and Tarris who has the better game. The analytics tend to favor Samson, but it's really a matchup to matchup type thing.

And who starts doesn't matter, the minutes allocation is what matters.
  • Samson 13 minutes
  • Tarris 27 minutes
Who starts does not matter at all.

Appreciate Tarris for stepping up last night and hope we can finally get a game where we see both Samson and Tarris show up since it hasn't happened once this season.

Tarris being tough down low will free up the shooters.
That is a key for us. Sampson outside handing off the ball doesn’t free anyone.

I hear what you're saying... and it's true technically speaking. But it DOES matter to basketball players. Idk what level you played at (if any), but anyone who has played competitive sports gets that starting is a point of pride. It's something you sweat and bleed in practice to try to earn.

Taking away SJs starting role would be a shot to the confidence. Not starting Reed after performances where he plays better is a shot to his confidence. It just is.

I get that but Hurley has said multiple times Samson has great importance to the team in terms of overall spirit. If Tarris was doing this every game for 40 minutes I think it's a no brainer, but both players tend to give it for 20 minutes and at best every other game so I don't see one necessarily deserving it over the other

My take is everyone agrees that Tarris has more talent and on average gets more minutes than Samson but fades in and out. If you’re on the bench and want to be a starter shouldn’t you be more consistent when you are on the floor. Make the coach start you!

I'm not convinced either has earned it at this point, honestly. So I can't fault Hurley for sticking with the status quo. He's generally VERY slow to change rotations... achingly slow at times, for better or worse.
