The OP had it right with correct placement of the hyphen. Re-signs rather than resigns.

Another example. Somebody wants to sell a big SUV (e.g., Ford Expedition) with low mileage. It would be wrong to advertise "a little used SUV." Bring the hyphen to the rescue: "I have a little-used SUV for sale."
