"Four games. That's how many wins Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer is away from becoming tied for the winningest coach in women's basketball history. This milestone (1,098 wins) is currently held by the late Pat Summitt during her time at Tennessee".

Had the season not been canceled due to the COVID-19 virus, VanDerveer could have possibly surpassed Summitt's record earlier this year during the NCAA tournament.

Geno is at 1,091. Does he have a prayer of getting there first? It's not likely. Auriemma can also tie Summitt's record before the holiday break if UConn can win all 7 games scheduled before then. The last game being against Villanova on Dec 22. This of course assumes a victory over Louisville on Dec 4 which cannot be taken for granted.

Stanford begins the season on Nov 25 with Cal Poly (Big West) who finished 11-18 last year. This is the only 2020-2021 scheduled game Stanford has released as of today. Stanford 20-21 schedule

Well Stanford is currently ranked No. 2, so..... It may take a couple of early bow outs by Stanford in the NCAA to eliminate that game spread. Then again the PAC is more competitive so we could get some help there.

  • Tara VanDerveer owns 1,097 career wins and is two victories shy of passing Pat Summitt (1,098) as the winningest coach in women’s college basketball history.
  • Tara VanDerveer is now 51-5 all-time against her former assistants and 49-9 against her former players after defeating UNLV’s Lindy La Rocque. California is coached by Charmin Smith, a former player and assistant at Stanford.
Copied the above from tonight's Stanford/Cal game pre-game notes. TVD can tie PS tonight.

Who can tell me Geno's record against former assistants and former players. Tick tock.
