Yeah I guess it's how we interpret 1 of the initial questions from the poster fansince17 said - "When did anyone win when they didn't have the best talent?"
You had mentioned from above "especially since we saw how good Stewart would become and how good she was in the post season. " I interpreted this differently in that talent is subjective as a comparison and sometimes it's not fully realized until after-the-fact; then a declaration is made.
Stewie was so far down the totem pole that she wasn't even BE Frosh of the year. She wasn't even Honorable Mention A/A. She only started one-third of her games her frosh year. The way she was performing that season before the game vs ND, there was no way many, many people would say she was so much more talented than Diggins whom was not only a super recruit 4 years earlier and regarded as superstar her sr year, that Stewie would outplay her so decisively.
In fact Stewart was thought of so little in that we can hear during the FF game vs ND when score was 39-30 that Holly mentioned that she spoke with Muffett, Muffett said the key to the game defending KML and then Holly said that Muffett felt that Stewart would now be held in check because Braker had foul trouble in 1st half and would now contain her in the 2nd half. We need to let that sink in that even the super coach Muffett was thinking; that Ariel Braker containing Stewart while Stewart was playing really well and more worried of KML. Ariel Braker. . . That’s how low Stewart was thought. So, while you mention that the next year UCONN was even stronger, I’m looking back at the prior year when Baylor was a champion in which their superstars should have been even much better. In addition to Stewart couldn’t even win FOY in her own conference along with this very season ND beat 3 times in which Diggins was a superstar.
For me – looking after the fact- yes sure. But at that moment in FF and overall looking at the season counting the start or even half-way, imo UCONN was not more talented if Stewart couldn’t even show she was better/more talented than the freshman, Lloyd, never mind the other teams superstars.
