By the way, falling afoul of APR is the same as cheating for 10 years.

No, strike that, it's the same as cheating AND getting caught.

Your best option is not to fall afoul of APR.
Second best option, if you're in danger of APR, cheat.

They do have a postseason ban for next year

Strange, because the words in that link read the following way:

SU imposed a postseason ban last month for the current season.

The NCAA did not impose any further postseason bans.

"SU imposed a postseason ban last month for the current season. The NCAA today banned the university from the postseason for next year."

Good enough for me
yeah whats that? two years?

So who's calculated how many wins this takes away from Jimmy B for using ineligible players?

.-.
What's going to happen to UNC?

I hate to see kids punished who likely had nothing to do w/ the crime, but the precedent was set with our double-conviction for something far less severe. The fact that they got to self impose the 1-year ban this year (conveniently a "down" year for them) is still utter bullsh--t.

The scholarships seem appropriate though. 3 less per year is a pretty big deal.

A decades worth of infractions is apparently not worth a post season ban. Even sportcenter can't figure out if they are banned next year as I'm watching right now.

Yes it is, a 1 year ban. This year.

The loss of scholarship is huge and so is the hit to Bohiems legacy.

This is more than I thought was coming.

Syracuse won't miss a beat with this punishment. As long as he gets to keep next years recruiting class they're happy.

Exactly. Operating with only 10 scholarships for 4 years (2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020) is going to hurt a lot more than a postseason ban for next year. Factor in that Boeheim will probably be leaving during that time frame, too. This is a pretty big punishment.

.-.
The scholarship reduction is about the same as Penn State football (almost a 1/4), which had a huge impact on their ability to recruit and their depth.

Agree completely, this has a bigger effect long term.

A lot of coaches have been fired for A LOT less, I think Boehiem survives this, but who knows. Cuse administration is not know for its moral's or ethics.

Not to mention cutting their available off-campus recruiting staff by half for 2 years. Look what it did to us in getting recruits who had longer relationships with other coaches.

I hate the NCAA. I know i'm in the majority, but come on. They ban UConn for retroactively breaking rules. Yet, Syracuse breaks a TON of rules and gets to call its own shots? I get that the scholarships they lose are a big deal, but whatever. You think recruits care that Boeheim loses some wins? That only effects Jim B.

Does anyone else have a banner ad for MEMPHIS the musical on their boneyard page right now? is this a joke!?

.-.
This is bad news for UNC. Making ineligible every player for every year of violations means UNC has to lose some titles.

But next years team should be very good since there only losing one player and have top 10 class coming in. They now will only have to focus on one or two top recurits and talk their players into staying longer after next season. It will be tough but this is light compared to a post seaono ban. If they were banned next year likely players decommit and they would be hurting next season which would effect future recruiting.

No ban, but those are some pretty rough consequences. Especially for JB who treasures his win total above all else

Ah, have to disagree somewhat. UConn was crippled because of the transfer rule, where players could play immediately. Because of the self-imposed bad, no one was going anywhere this year on Cuse due to timing. Did Syracuse really use up all of their scholarships the last 4 years? How many walk-ons on UConn "earned scholarships" this year (I think Lenehan and Guest). A postseason ban next year would have meant the Orange would have to start from scratch.

Luckily we had Shabazz who was/is arguably the most important player in UConn's storied history- so it didn't cripple us, but it could have.

So what you get 13 schollys a year?

Syracuse currently has one commit and 11 scholarship players for 2016 season.

Well that is 12, they need to reduce 2, so they already have to start shuffling the roster.

It is a very big deal

13 a year, yes. Scholarships are on a renewal basis so they can essentially "force out" anyone they want to after this year. If UConn needed to do that I can point a few fingers at those we don't need to bring back. It's harsh, but true.

Football works with this all the time "preferred walk-ons". You give them a spot on the team, and pay for everything else. Syracuse can find those guys to be on the end of the bench.
