Syracuse post game thread

almost fully agree, except with that last line. we can definitely get worse. we've done it before lol
Fagnano hadn't completed a pass since 2:50 was left in the 3rd quarter until the catch by Bell on 4th down in the final drive. He was 0-5 (all in the 4th quarter) on his way to 0-8 before the Bell catch. They ran the ball 8 times for 57 yards prior to the final 3 and out where they ran all three times; which seems to be the genesis of people's frustration.

I don't know. What decision would we have done differnt? Fagnano is inconsistent with his accuracy. It cost the team a chance to put the game away.he was under 50% passing. That is who he is. He can get ball verticial, but its not precise downfield. Great throws and then some bouncers.

Defense? Got tired. I thought they went away from running game too much.

Mora isn't the problem. If you believe he is, then you haven't been following UConn Football very closely...
I don’t think anyone is trying to imply that and if they are they haven’t been following UConn football AT ALL, we are light years ahead of were we were as a program 5 years ago, but to outplay an opponent the way we did only to lose is TOUGH

No doubt this was a real tough loss; it looked like a win for 55 minutes. There were some good things that happened, just not enough. The team needs to learn from this: for one, they should have learned that they can play with P4 teams.

Get a win over Delaware next week and move on. Every remaining game looks winnable. I'm not saying that they will win them all, but they should compete.

This is our best roster in years. I'm so confused over this one. The offenses inability to move the ball from the plus side of the 50 to the 35 basically cost the game. Besides those 15 yards on that side of the ball we were trouncing them
Let me help some of the confusion:

If this is our best roster in years, it's not by much. We lost 9 of 11 starters on D. They came together to hold Syracuse to less points (regular time) than the Tennessee defense did last week. Really impressive, especially without McLean. But make no mistake, we lost a lot last year with Jelani, McDonald, etc.

On offense, we lost a lot on the OLine. Lundt is on the Buffalo Bills roster now, etc. The current OLine is doing well, but we can't just go out there and get 3 yards on command when we need it (like in OT).

If we are more talented than last year, it sure as heck ain't by a lot...

I truly think this game came down to Fagnano not making those easy throws. He was just off. The offense lost us this game, not the defense. Which was the opposite of what all of us would have thought going into it.
Wasn’t just him. Playcalling went too conservative too soon.

It probably lead to the conservative play calling by Sammis for the 2nd half.

I agree, which is why I don't understand why someone would bring up "year 4" for Mora, as if going to 2 bowl games and being competitive against P4 programs isn't infinitely better than what we had with Edsall...

We are not that good. Too bad, needed a scalp like this.
Disagree. Learning to win in situations like that is a process.

Team played well. Made some plays to get them in a position to win. Then they puckered. Offense play calling also got very conservative.

Team has some pieces. Tough learning. Hopefully Mora and staff get the most of this.

We basically played entire second half hoping they would never make a play. The drive/play calling after the k terception was particularly painful as well as after missed FG. They basically were like a boxer on their last legs about 7 different times and we let thme off the hook without the knockout.

The standard isn't better than Edsall. The program under Edsall 2.0 was the biggest abomination any of us have ever seen. It's year 4 for Mora and the team shouldn't be finding new and improved ways to lose football games they should easily win. These losses are crushing when there are so few opportunities and the program is trying to prove something to P4 conferences. Mora is 19-21 overall and 2-12 against the P4. Keeping the games close against Syracuse and Duke does nothing for us.

Mel Brown wasn’t used enough, why not try using Edward’s and Brown together on some plays.
I was at a loss on that one….

When Edwards was gassed, why would you ever let Mel ride the bench….

That one is all on the Offense play calling…

And a true head scratcher… unless he was hurt….

Apparently the whole Syracuse team was hurt at some point in the game - never seen so many injury time outs.. Think the water boy called for an injury time out too…

They did a similar thing in the Fenway bowl. Got some quick touchdowns, halftime came, adjustments were made, and we were completely shutdown in the 2nd half. Difference is we were further ahead vs UNC and they were resting their better players.

I’m not surprised by Fagano. He was so awful vs Temple last season he single handily put that game to the point of needing a goal line stand to win.

I’ll take this over the bad seasons but it’s becoming obvious the moment is too big for this staff vs power 4 teams in close games.

Don't tell me what the standard is.

The fact that Mora has made the standard playing in Bowl games, as an independent, with less NIL money than most of our P4 competitors, without the ability to bring an impartial referee crew on the road, is perhaps one of the best rebuilds in the country. He's brought us from a laughing stock to a legit team in an era where being short of money should mean death.

Your comment tells me that you should stop telling me things...

idk if this is a compliment to uconn or an insult to uconn - I take it as an insult, as if being legitimately challenged by UConn nearly to the point of defeat, is such an embarassment to Fran Brown that he makes his kids run sprints after the game? i think it's a shot at UConn; THIS is what P4 teams think of us, even MEDIOCRE ones like syracuse, no matter what they say on the mic. I guarantee if this same game happens against even a meh ACC team like Wake or Stanford, the sprints don't happen.

If you put Fran on the spot and asked him, I'm sure he'd say it has "nothing" to do with us - he's just molding his guys. I call BS. he thinks we're beneath him, if perhaps subconsciously only.

This is why we needed to kick their ***es. nothing less than a WIN against them will shut them up, change perceptions, and actually make Big12 schools take us seriously in the next vote. We failed.

Are you seriously using Randy Edsall as a benchmark?

This loss is on Jim Mora. Total lack of ambition.

It’s definitely an insult to UConn.

They ask us to pack the Rent but man we’ve seen too many of these over the last decade. Way too many.

I have to believe that at least 80 percent of us long time sufferers knew or at least felt the Orange were gonna drive the length of the field down 17-12. Not only did they do that but it was a cakewalk.

This is a wretched loss. Wretched.

2 and 11 with the ball with about 3:50 to play, I turn to my buddy and say, “the whole stadium knows we are going to run, this is a perfect time for play action.” When I watched the next two run plays, I knew we were going to lose.
