While watching Yanks/Mets tonight I couldn't help but notice the billboard Syracuse has purchased in Yankee Stadium pronouncing them NY's team. It is located on the thirdbase side of stadium on the first loge level.

Paying for a billboard does not mean they are NYC's team. Both UCONN and RU are far closer to NYC than SU. NYC does not really have a real college team. SU AD Gross is really reaching here.

I am sure they paid for the billboard.
Most definitely they paid for that...basically what I was getting at...and I should have added it to my op...that is the kind of stuff we need to think about doing in NYC. Not specifically Yankee stadium, but something like that.

Think I'll put a billboard in Yankee Stadium sayn' "Husky68 is Kim Basinger's main squeeze".

Wonder if BCU is planning the same thing at Fenway so they can prove they are Boston's team.

Did the Fruit sign have in small letters "upstate snowbelt" before NY?

Do 1 with kemba etc... Just put the cuse idea to shame.

Yes they can be new York's college base ball team
Lol they can be nys hockey team also. Whats even funnier is that rutgers has one at a minors park.

Four year agreement though 2015.

My bet is that they dirn't pay the going rate... Helps to have influential alum - "When Brandon Steiner graduated from Syracuse University in 1981, he could never have predicted this day would come. Now, nearly 30 years later, Steiner is sitting in Yankee Stadium watching Syracuse compete in the Pinstripe Bowl. It's a unique circumstance for Steiner, who enjoys seeing his name on the marquee of two standout brands: Yankees-Steiner Collectibles and Syracuse-Steiner Collectibles. "This is a dream come true: says Steiner. "As much as I love watching 'Cuse in the Carrier Dome, you just can't beat Yankee Stadium. "

Many collectors despise Steiner Sports for overproducing game worn items.

Let's not forget the picture of the Statute of Liberty they have in the dome. Where's Niagara Falls?

i think of it kind of like media and politics, if you just keep saying the same thing over and over for long enough it just sort of becomes true after a while.

You have a lot in common with Rutgers football fans.

One Elite 8 in the last 15 years (Melo)!!! Let them put up all the Billboards they want.

A negative judgment gives me more satisfaction than praise, provided it smacks of jealousy.

BTW how about two Elite Eights in nine years?

I'll gladly take our basketball future...things are looking up. I hope UConn/ND joins us one of these days in the ACC...

This should not generate giggles. Syracuse is one of UCONN's rivals for this small, but highly important, market. If I had anything to do with the selling of UCONN football, the first thing I'd want to know is whether or not the Cuse purchased the space directly from the Yankees, or went through an agency. If the answer is "agency," the Billboard is probably part of a campaign directed at the desired market. That's very bad for UCONN. It means that Syracuse realizes the importance of the market and is willing to go to war. UCONN! Please don't sleep on this.

I doubt UConn is sleeping on much of anything, but for Syracuse this seems to be a matter of survival. Gross desperately promotes Syracuse in NYC and would probably like to move Syracuse to Queens. In the old Big East, including basketball schools, there were about 7 programs closer to NYC than Syracuse, including BC, Prov., and Nova. Capturing the Buffalo market doesn't float their boat.

i think some of you are getting a little overly worked up about a billboard. if billboards worked the Nets wouldn't be packing their bags to leave NJ right now b/c they had plenty of billboards. and before you say it's indicative of what's going on in NYC, or that it'll lead to more Syracuse fans down the road keep in mind, it's only a billboard. when was the last time you bought something b/c it was on a billboard?
