File this question under sour grapes directed at Hillsman.

Does anyone know how to find out the attendance at last night's home game against Coppin State? It's not listed in ESPN's box score.

I assume that Syracuse would charge for a Uconn game. I wonder how much income Syracuse gave up by not scheduling Uconn.

Last year's average Syracuse attendance was 710. Incidentally, Colgate upped their ticket price from $5 to $25 for the game. Good for them I hope their program made a few bucks.

Providence used to do the same when they played UConn at home.

And beer! LOL
And autographed pics from this really great Cicero-North Syracuse player from four years back who just couldn't be at the game last night for some reason.

Stanford did it last year when UConn came to town. A $30 ticket went for $55

'Nova used to raise prices for UConn, too. I went to a few games there.

So, 'Cuse had attendance of 335, about 1% of the arena capacity. Meanwhile, Colgate had a record crowd of 1,782--100% of capacity--at higher-than-normal ticket prices. 'Cuse could have had 5,000+, maybe well beyond that. Such short-sightedness on the part of the Orange. Congrats to Colgate!

File this question under sour grapes directed at Hillsman.

Admittedly, sometimes, a school cannot accommodate a request for a game because of logistics, or prior commitments (already at capacity of number of OCC games allowed).

Hillsman knew this going in. I believe this to be a case of sour grapes. As other posters and columnists have said, He knew a game with UConn would have sold out the arena........BUT, he no doubt felt "snubbed" when she refused to stay home and accept a scholarship offer from Syracuse, but instead decided to take her talents to Storrs.

More than likely, he felt no obligation to host a "homecoming" game for Stewart, or to kiss Geno's rings. One other observation is that a game with UConn is a loss for sure; in all likelihood, a blowout. This is another reason Hillsman may have decided to declined their proposal. He may have figured the risk outweighed the reward.

Instead, he chose to take his "token" guaranteed victory against cupcake Coppin State. A program that is light years away from being competitive with his team. The 335 people that showed up, were no doubt freinds, family members, and ardent fans. I'm sure he'll accept that. It's a good bet that he has very little (if any) love for Auremma, or the Huskies. Over the past few years under his watch, he hasn't had any luck in defeating the Huskies.

The reason nobody was there may have been because they went to Hamilton that evening. Rumor had it there was a much better game scheduled to be played there. If you are a real fan of WCBB, who would you rather see? Syracuse or UConn?

Things happen for a reason. UConn was not supposed to have her homecoming in Syracuse. I'm sure that the Colgate coach was more than please to host UConn and Syracuse's favorite daughter, Breanna Stewart.

UConn asked, and they said yes. The chance of a life time, to have the #1 ranked team in the country come to your campus. When you're a small school like Colgate, you don't get those kinds of calls everyday. Even in this case, Colgate was not UConn's first choice. Like Geno said, we're going to go there, and everybody is going to have a good time. You know that Colgate put on the Ritz for the huskies. Thanks Colgate, you're the best!!

I'm not a Syracuse fan to be sure. The next time Hillsman wants to schedule a homecoming game for one of his seniors, I hope that the local college or university gives him the same courtesy and consideration he gave to Breanna and Geno.

When the players and staff can make more noise than the "fans" you should realize you have a problem. What I would suggest to the Syracuse coach is whatever emotion you satisfied by denying Stewart a bigger "homecoming" takes away almost any chance you might recruit some high profile players to come to Syracuse. If the coach and administration can act in sucha petty way what's the message to recruits? I can only hope t that Syracuse finds a way to make the field for the NCAA tourney and get UConn in an early round at Storrs. That would be fun.

I suspect I'm not the only one who suspects that Quentin ordered the "hit" on Maya, so I'd just as soon forgo any opportunity to whup up on Syracuse. Beneath notice.

Makes for a good story piece but not true.

Rudolph Bing former General manager of the MET reminisced about an unpopular production:

We offered to send heated cabs, but still they would not come.

"it was readily apparent that Colgate incurred an added administrative burden logistically and financially . . . "

Not to me. My guest is that the administrative burden wouldn't have been that much greater than any other home game. Financially, I will concede that they may have had to pay to have more tickets printed and maybe hire someone to count the gate receipts.

If the AD is as disinterested in WCBB as you suggest (I won't dispute that), they would have let the coach make the call. This was all on Q 'cause that's how he rolls.

Cuse seems to give support to nothing except its basketball team, as even smaller sports like the national champ men's cross country and women's field hockey teams got little attention this year. The syracuse.com media site is similarly skewed, giving short shrift to any high school action outside of its main football and boys basketball focus even when they have local teams that win national championships year after year. But the little money is all in boys concussionball.
