That Minnesota defense is stifling Syracuse

Minnesota has strong guard play in Bell and Brunson, but they are still missing the injured Gadiva Hubbard.

Syracuse's Tiana Mangakahia is a human highlight reel and off to a tremendous start this season. She singlehandedly carried her team to an OT win over DePaul last weekend.

This is my first chance to see Lindsay Whalen as a head coach. Kinda fun to see.

Minnesota is off to a strong start. Lots of great energy and they're really attacking the Syrcause press and defense.

Hillsman hit with a T. He must not be happy with the way things are going.

Syracuse making a charge now. Their defense has adjusted and Minnesota has gone cold. The Orangies have cut the lead to 3 with 1:00 left in 2Q.

This is on BTN. Just realized that, maybe I'll watch the 2nd half.

edit--it does say that in the OP, but I only saw the link for streaming.

That non travel call was awful I don’t blame him led to a three

It was an obvious travel and it resulted in a 3-pointer for Minn. Add the FTs and there's your margin at the half.

Low scoring since I started watching. Minnesota is grabbing a ton of O boards.

Bello not picking up her first foul until the third quarter is key. Need her out there for 40 min.

What does that say about the Cuse, who is ranked higher?

At least Syracuse has beaten two currently ranked teams... and played a top 5 squad down to the buzzer. Minnesota hasnt played or beaten anybody before tonight.

Since this is a live game thread, you probably needed to clarify what you meant.

But seeing that they’re up on the #12 team, a place on the Top 25 seems to be justified.

A lot of ranked teams haven't beaten any other ranked teams yet: Texas, Tennessee, NC State, and others.

Syracuse's pressure is starting to get to Minnesota's guards, Bell particularly. She's had a number of giveaways and bad decisions, and Syracuse has tied the game in 4Q.

But they were all ranked in the preseason. I dont recall Minn being ranked ... they must have been high up in the others receiving votes category. Did they make the NCAA's last year?

Wow, I just turned this on with five minutes left and it looks like Syracuse's just amped up the defensive pressure. Have they been "soft" pressure up this point? What is it? 13-0 until the last three? Wow, great ending coming up.

Yes they were the top team receiving votes. I'm pretty sure they moved up when Duke got crushed by Northwestern and tumbled out of the rankings :)

Minnesota went 11-5 in the Big Ten last year, beat Green Bay in the 1st round of the NCAAs, and lost in the second round to Oregon.

Man, I thought Minnesota looked dead when they went down by 6. Then they go on a 9-0 run.

No kidding, looked like Syracuse pressure took control, then there was a complete change in momentum back the other way.

72-68 MIN final

Beast Bello 20 pts, 18 reb

This should shoot Minnesota up to around #16.

Monster work on the glass. She looks a lot different, but that reminds me a bit of Osahor at UW a couple years ago.

And to think some were upset that Minn chose Whelan over Niele Ivey. Looks like Whelan is the perfect choice.
