Given what transpired, it seems likely it was the same thing the Big XII went through during that period. The other schools were looking for life rafts, they were simply in no position to trust anyone else in the conference.What I could never understand is why the eight football schools did not use the "get out of jail free" card to split with the other schools and then expand and sign a TV deal as best they could.
That option was available but never exercised prior to the implosion. Was it because the eight football schools could not agree on anything?
Also, wasn't the old BE contract unique in that basketball was the majority of the value? I'm unsure cutting out the basketball schools would have led to a better contract.
