Simms looked nearly unstoppable and Diggins was at her pouty, floppy best. As much as it pains me to say it these two may become the best guard tandem in the league. The Sun D continued its summer vacation. Bright spots for the Sun were Alyssa Thomas and KT. Alex Bentley had another bad day at the office and does not seem to be bringing the positive energy she did earlier on the bench or the floor. Often seems too in love with one-on-one moves burning time dribbling around trying to create her own shot. Renee had some good offensive minutes but D is her Achilles heel. Hard to believe that no one has made Kelsey Bone use the glass consistently when she's close in. The girl gets herself open well but has trouble finishing. She needs to solve that to get to another level.

Fun has left the Sun [sigh] :(. Brutal road schedule to follow. @ Atlanta and @Indy (with Catch this time) before returning home for the battle of the Ogwumikes.

Sims looked like the Sims of her senior year at Baylor. The chemistry on that team looks really good. They seem to truly enjoy playing with each other. Sims and Digguns are dynomite together.

Based on Donovan's road game record (one win in two years!) this could be a very tough stretch coming up.

Will they fire donovan if they miss the playoffs again or is it not a big deal on who the coach is?

Sims had 30 points, and I believe Skylar had 20 last night. From the standpoint of sheer athletic ability, Sims has to be the best point guard in America right now, and probably needs to be on the World and Olympic teams.

The Sun has some players that I like to watch very much as individuals, like Katie D, Chiney, (and Renee and Kelly when they play) but I am having a hard time warming to this group as a team. Don't exactly know why. Lack of consistency, maybe? Puzzling.

Sims is up there, but not sure she is even the most athletic rookie point guard. Jamierra Faulkner has one of the most explosive first steps I have ever seen.

Overall, I'd have to say Danielle Robinson is the best athlete. Certainly she is the fastest player in the league. Teams play off of her because she's not a 3-point shooter, and she still blows past the defense for a layup.

But Sims is MUCH stronger that Faulkner and Robinson. And none of them compete harder than Sims. Other than DT I'm not sure I've seen a more competitive player.

I was at courtside for the game. EastTexas would've loved to be at this game.

The game seemed to be pretty even until the 3rd quarter. Sim finally started playing like a #2 draft pick. She's picking up the offensive moves that Skylar and Goodrich use- the driving floaters. For once she seemed to have confidence in her game. No long, hurried jumpers or missed layups last night. She was attacking the basket like Skylar does and the shots were falling more often than not. It was infectious and the rest of the team started hitting high percentage shots. The guy next to me was exasperated (Sun fan).

I was yelling encouragement at the girls the whole game. I was almost the only pro-Shock attendees except for a few guys behind me- one who had a homemade sign about Skylar. He kept shouting "Give us a look, Skylar!" and of course she ignored him. LOL

Sims was right in front of me at the end of the game and I told her she had a good game.

Now if she can keep that up for another ten games then the Shock might be in the playoffs.

I was ambiguous about rooting for the Shock but I think they have a tougher road to the playoffs so I wanted them to get the win.

Don't be too down on them. It was just the Shock's night last night. The Sun will come back!

Indeed, not a 3-point shooter, so teams can play off her. A huge difference between her and Sims. And she doesn't have the variety of shots that Sims has, including that huge variety of tear drops in the lane that always seem to fall (or at least they did against the Sun).

If you compare the college career of Sims to that of Robinson and Falkner, there is no comparison (especially given the quality of the opposition most of the time).

Courtney Vandersloot was leading the league in assists before her injury, and she is a capable scorer on her own, but she certainly does not have the strength, speed, or agility of Sims. Still, among "under 30" point guards, I would rank Sims, Diggins, and CVS higher than Robinson or Falkner.

Credit Donovan and her staff for making the needed adjustments to counter Sims driving tonight.

You're talking about different types of players here. Robinson is more of a driving scorer who just blows by most people who try to guard her. Faulkner may be like that but she also runs the offense.
Sims, Diggins and CVS play more like straight point guards.

OK, so the Sun won tonight so is everyone back on the bandwagon?

Never been off the bandwagon. I only root for one WNBA team... the one 20 mins down the road where I've been attending since they arrived from Orlando. Didn't give up my seats last year and its hard to imagine a worst season to endure.

Just joking.

I could tell by the reactions of the fans in the two games I attended that the Sun have good fans.

They're a young team though and there will be growing pains.

Having both Sims and Diggins on the same team seems to be helping them both improve!
