Alyssa Thomas was just terrific 23pts, 11 rbs. Fowles and EDD are back but EDD was not sharp and they seemed to have difficulty getting Syl the ball inside where she had an advantage against the smaller Sun frontcourt (Alyssa, Chiney and Kelsey B). Breland, Syl and EDD in the Sky front court... very intimidating.

For such a young team the Sun have been mentally and physically tough this year. They got off to a sizeable deficit and came back to win in impressive fashion. Good, noisy crowd... FUN IS BACK AT THE SUN!

Watched the other game which was probably just as good. I'll watch this game tomorrow night.

I got a courtside seat to the Tulsa/Conn. game on July 3rd!

This was one of the best games (if not THE best game) that the Sun have played in the last season and a half. They got down 11-2 at the start as the Sky made nearly every shot, then worked their way back and took advantage of a 27-10 third quarter to take a decisive lead, which reached 16 points in the third quarter before a Chicago comeback in the fourth quarter.

The Sky have an intimidating level of talent (Fowles, EDD, Epiphanny Prince, Courtney Vandersloot), and they played that way in the first quarter, scoring 30 points. However, Fowles was playing her first game of the year and EDD was returning after missing five games because of Lyme disease. Neither appeared to be completely in game shape. Fowles had a great first quarter and finished the first half with 15 points. Elena had 11 points at halftime. Each player scored exactly 2 points in the second half. Elena played 3-4 minute shifts and then went to the bench even when she was playing well, and she did not play much in the fourth quarter when the game got close.

I'm not sure that the Sun have enough talent to win a playoff series against the Sky if that should occur, but they certainly took advantage of the infirmities of Fowles and EDD tonight.

Kelly Faris played 13 minutes and did not score. Renee Montgomery played 15 minutes and scored 4 points. Both played "real minutes" while the Sun were behind or had a slim lead.

Allison Hightower and Danielle McCray were both injured and in street clothes for the game.

I wonder if Charles is regretting the move to NY, which has the worst record in the WNBA.

Sun are playing great after a slow start. I've been critical of Donovon, but have to give her and the players credit for how they are now playing. The Sun have played 5 out of current 6 game winning streak at home. Have to see if they can win on the road. They've lost 4 out of the 5 road games.

Its not only the Sun that have problems winning on the road.

I'm going to the Sun/Mystics game tomorrow night. It should be a real barn burner with all the teams jelling now.

The Sun are really tough right now. I don't think they are true contenders because they lack the top-end talent of some other teams (Atlanta, LA, Minnesota, healthy Chicago) but they have a lot of contributors and play with tons of energy. They have improved greatly since I saw Chicago blow them out at Chicago.

Bone, Thomas, and Douglas all look MUCH better.

For Chicago, EDD was clearly not at her best. She was missing easy shots and was visibly fatigued. Syl looked pretty good. If she's 100% CT probably doesn't get as many offensive boards as they did, but I think all she's really fighting is rust. It's going to take some time to get everybody on the same page. The offense broke down terribly after the 1st quarter.

Credit to the Sun's aggressive defense. Prince, especially, never got into the game and that really hurt Chicago once Fowles and EDD saw their initial burst of energy wear off.

I just read on the WNBAlien site that the second half of the season starts next Wednesday. Teams will start cutting "fringe" players Monday and using 7 day contracts to try out players.

Alyssa Thomas, Katie Douglas help Sun overcome sluggish start to defeat Sky, 79-69

“I thought we looked like a team that had not played in a week,” Connecticut Sun coach Anne Donovan said of her team’s first quarter Wednesday night against the Chicago Sky, “but the resiliency and the fight that we had to come back and not get down was there.”
That resiliency showed itself in a dominant third quarter that saw the Sun go on a 27-10 run to turn a 45-39 halftime deficit into a 66-55 lead.

At least she doesn't have to drive Route 95 any longer. Since we have their first round pick next year, we can finish in the playoffs and still get a top four pick.

I doubt that very much. Tina wanted to be in NY and in the midst of her family[period]. Her statements about the directions the two teams were going being a deciding factor was just NY media talk (bordering on BS) and a mild swipe at Sun management. She knew Chiney coming to the Sun was going to give the team an impressive frontcourt and she knew KT was coming for veteran leadership and 3-point power in the backcourt. With Tina in the mix, and a healthy supporting cast, the Sun were a playoff lock.

My take is Tina is happier in the cellar with NY than contending in Uncasville. As much as I hate Laimbeer, his track record would indicate that he'll turn it around at some point.

And I don't think Laimbeer ever anticipated that pick would be worth much (and the truth is, NY still could turn it around and devalue that pick).

All due respect to the Bria who is the ORIGINAL bomb. Alyssa Thomas is DA BOMB! I love her whole approach to the game and I suspect she's going to get much better.

I've been saying that from the start. I knew she and Chiney would do well in CT.
