Says a lot about what some of the fans thinks about Sanyia and Courtney when they are lumped in with "Others" and only need to practice high fives

I agree PV.......I believe both Courtney and Saniya are going to be valuable pieces for Geno to kave on his chess board next year. No Big-3 to rely on anymore. And both players are versatile . Saniya can play the 1/2 ; and Courtney can play the 2 or 3.
The only thing that has kept them off the court is their lack of defense. Improve their defense and up goes the playing time.

I would like to see Kia Nurse work on finishing her layups. She drives hard to the basket but seems to short arm her shots. She misses and has more shots blocked then necessary. I think she and Lou are the keys for 16/17. I think they each have the chance to be superstars! Collier is not far behind with some strength training. Coaching staff have a lot of work to do but I'm encouraged! Really going to miss Stewie though:(

Let us please recall that Kia will be engaged with the Canadian National Team this summer. She won't have a lot of time to work on her game and won't have much opportunity to rest till about this time in 2017.

Hmmmm - play with against professional players in an intense competitive environment! Definitely not restful, but I suspect she will get and incorporate a lot of knowledge and experience into her game this summer.

Good point on Nurse. IMO, she has a couple of physical limitations. One is common to many women BB players, she can't jump. And two, I wonder if she has relatively small hands. She never extends her arms when attempting to jump with the ball thus getting her shots blocked a lot on drives. Bigger hands allow you to control the ball better when extending.

I'd like to see Samuelson work on driving and shooting through contact. Football teams use a type of body pad to jostle QBs while throwing and WRs while catching in drills. Many BB teams use these as well. An hour a day with two volunteers using these would help her a lot with concentration and balance in shooting and driving drills.

Chong - watch DT videos (not the actual moves and shot, just the supreme self confidence!)
Also I would please Saniya don't let you defense woes affect your decisiveness and confidence on offense. And work on your defense footwork.

I would add for Natalie practice holding on to the ball and jumping. Natalie merely reaches for the ball not jump.
Agree, Natalie should watch Tuck's video, learn to get the ball and jump, you either score or get fouled.
With her height if she can do this she will be a big scorer.

"Hmmmm" ?

What I call working on her game would be individual workouts to practice, remediate, hone, and develop her skills. She'll doubtless have some time to do that, but not an entire summer as other players have.

No "Hmmmm" to it.

Agreed. That would drill would help to develop "muscle memory".

Yes, that was exactly my thinking, Gus. Last year Kia's Canadian team was busy qualifying for the Olympics, and I think she came to UConn pretty tired. I believe that fatigue contributed to her slow start last season. Hoping she'll find time to rest and come back fresher come fall. Complicating this is the possibility that Canada may be good enough to go deep into the summer tournament.

Uconn uses the blocking pads all the time in individual work outs - CD and Marisa are pretty good at wielding them and I hear Shea ain't bad either!

Kia--play hard this summer, but leave behind that "European step" when you show up in Storrs in Sept!

The only thing that has kept them off the court is their lack of defense.

The main reason(s) Saniya and Courtney didn't play more was that Mo, Kia, Lou and even Stewie were hogging so much PT. Both will do just fine next season when challenged to step up.;)

1. Butler seemed to only get "garbage" minutes in the tournament. Can she defend and rebound to warrant 20-25 minutes a game?

2. From my view, Chong clearly gets a quick hook. I think Nurse is very comfortable at the two. I hope Chong gets healthy and supplies the needed minutes at the one, especially early in the year.

3. I would be surprised if Dangerfield started from day 1. Lou said in an interview that the expectations are so much higher than she expected and she knew things would be difficult. I think Dangerfield will need time to adjust.

4. I worry about Nurse coming off the Olympic experience. That is a lot of basketball without much time to recover.

1. One of the issues with evaluating Natalie is with her injury, she was coming into a team mid-season with a skill set that was incompatible with both the general offense and defense being run by the starters, and with skills and weaknesses that the team was not used to exploiting nor covering up. If she were playing on the senior Dolson team her entering the game would have been much more seamless because she and Dolson have a lot more similarities and weaknesses than she and either Stewart or Tuck. The 2015-16 team was just not a 'post oriented' offense or defense. The 2016-17 team may well be, and even if it isn't if she stays healthy there will not be a two month break where the team moves on from her unique skill set and then struggles to reintegrate those skills back into their repertoire. (This was also an issue with Stokes through her first two years - her game was generally incompatible with Dolson's who was the starter, and she kept having nagging injuries that disputed her integration.)
2. I think if Chong can get her mind right, she can be very effective, she certainly has the skills and her defense is actually pretty good. If she remains tentative or if she cannot get physically 'right' it will be more of the same - I really do not understand IT band issues or the prognosis for 'full recovery' so others probably have a better idea on that.
3. See #2. And lets not forget Ekmark - who could very well provide the kind of 'discovery' that Maria did in 2002-3. I don't think anyone saw that, including the coaches - they started freshman Nicole Wolff until her injury.
4. Last summer Nurse had two international competitions that lasted over a month - the Olympics is 'bigger' but it is a single competition and she should get a longer break this summer than last.
