New Britain Bees will join Futures Collegiate Baseball League in 2020

>>After spending four years playing in the Atlantic League, an independent professional baseball league, the New Britain Bees announced Monday that the team will join the Futures Collegiate Baseball League starting in 2020.<<

>>The FCBL, which features teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, is a collegiate summer baseball league, in which players largely from the northeast look to gain experience and impress Major League Baseball scouts. Per league rules, at least 50 percent of the players on each team’s roster should be from New England, or attend college in New England. The league has existed since 2011, and is also home to the Bristol Blues.

The Bees will continue to play at New Britain Stadium, and will host 29 games next summer, with tickets starting at $5, according to the team. In addition, the Bees will host the 2020 FCBL All-Star Game on July 14.<<

Another shoe drops in the college summer league merry go round:

>"It is my understanding that the Blues may join the NECBL for the 2020 season,” Bristol mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu told The Press. “Their contract with the city remains unchanged and we are looking forward to next summer and the Blues again playing at Muzzy, just in a different league."

Brian Rooney, the team’s general manager, confirmed the move in a post on The Bristol Press Facebook page, writing, “They are not moving they are going to the NECBL,” while the team announced on Twitter, “next week we have a HUGE announcement.”<

Assuming that Bristol does join the NECBL, they will join the Mystic Schooners and the Danbury Westerners as Connecticut teams in that league.

The Atlantic League was fun to have in CT. If the Bluefish were still alive, the Bees would probably have stayed put.
