Just realized that with the current format of Fiba WC being reduced to 6 games Sue's record which is currently at 29 games played and should reach 31 games is likely untouchable. With a nine game format - playing all games in three WC tournaments led to the previous record of 27. With the new format even should a player like Stewart play in five (she would be 36 in her last one) she would still max out at 30 games. Catch had she been able to play this year would have reached 33 games as Sue must have not gotten into two of the 2002 games.
Diana if she plays in 2018 would reach 30 games as she would only get six games each for the two under the new format to go with the two years with 9 each.

Probably but they could also change the format again to more games, like 12 for instance. Never know.

Somehow I doubt they will - the more games prior to elimination rounds the more favorable it is for the USA since it allows them to get the 'practice' they don't get because of other commitments for players.

It is also a money thing. Not always a plot against the US team. If WBB becomes more popular worldwide for whatever reason and the event takes place in the USA...

The format changes are mostly about money/expenses....not trying to undercut the US.

Should they do that, it will likely become known as "The Stewart Rule" to accommodate her quest for a FIBA record, in the mannner of the NBA's Larry Bird Rule or MLB's Tommy John Surgery.

I got it from a very good authority that the rule is about to change to a 3 game venue. It's called the Geno Blocking rule. It originally was the Doug Bruno Rule but he would not allow that--someone suggested the Harry Peretta (??) Rule, but that one had no hair on it/ USA protested the 3 game rule and Russia opted out of the games all together--Spain said they'd only play if allowed to win. France said Yea but everyone including coaches must wear burka's --- just to slow down the game. And Griner must wear combat boots.
