“After helping lead UConn to a 9-win season and a Fenway Bowl victory in 2024, UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano sat down with Storrs Central to reflect on his journey — from walking on at Maine to earning his shot at UConn. He opens up about what drew him to the program, battling through early injuries, the mental grind of recovery, and what fans can expect from this year’s QB room and revamped Huskies offense.”

->Joe Fagnano and Skyler Bell had quite the ongoing text exchange after UConn’s victory in the Fenway Bowl.

Bell, the Huskies’ No. 1 receiver, was in the transfer portal weighing a lucrative offer from Michigan. Fagnano, the quarterback, MVP of UConn’s victory over North Carolina, had played his last college game … or so everyone, including he, assumed.

“It was so funny,” said Bell. “One of our staff members said, ‘we’re waiting on to see if Joe’s coming back.’ I kind of brushed over it, then I called him back. I said, Joe? I thought Joe wasn’t coming back. So I immediately texted Joe, ‘Bro, you coming back?’ And he texts back, ‘Are you coming back?’ … And I said, well, if you’re coming back it makes it a little different.” <-

-> “I would not write Joe off as a guy that will finish his career at UConn,” Mora said. “I think Joe is pretty special, there’s some real qualities and he’s going to be a mature player when he gets done here. I think he has a lot of value, not just at this level, but at the next level, whether it’s the NFL, USFL or Canada.” <-

Ya know what they say about opinions:

100. Joe Fagnano, UConn
Fagnano was a steady starter for UConn’s offense last season, throwing for 1,631 yards and 20 touchdowns to only four picks. He also connected on 58.3 percent of his throws and chipped in 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Fagnano transferred to UConn from Maine in ‘23 and was slated to start for the Huskies that year. However, an injury in Week 2 ended his season after just 35 pass attempts. With a full offseason to develop and work as the No. 1 quarterback, Fagnano is poised to improve upon last year’s totals.
