Storm Murphy in Transfer Portal

Cool name. If we could get the Storm of 2018-19 (47.2% 3PT on 100+ attempts), sign me up!

Seems like with higher volume, his efficiency has gone down (42% on 151 attempts 2019-20, and 40% on 175 attempts this year). Not a surprise, I guess.

Know nothing else about his game though.

Doesn't look like a big east caliber player. I'll pass

.-.
Yes.
This is the kid that made that cringey dance video with his parents a couple years back.

But he can ball.

Gritty. Leader. Seen him in person. A real bulldog. Can't imagine he'd come here to sit. But would gladly take him.

Great culture guy. Can hit 3s at high clip. Would take him in a second.

Would you say he plays the game the right way? One of those "first to arrive, last to leave" types? Any chance his dad was his high school coach?

Exactly. Hard-working mid-major guy that shows up in NCAAs. Hurley would love him - he's a grinder. Not gonna blow by guys but makes open threes at high clip and leads his team.

.-.
Would prefer a shooter with more size. We have Gaff RJ and Diggins at the 1 spot

Shooters are shooters though. Trust the staff if they offer

The size worries me. I don't think we ever want two six footers on the court at the same time. I'd prefer a SF who can shoot.

Like the kid but this would be a reach/settle. In a couple of months the transfer portal will be historically "Lit".

Definitely agree, I think there are gonna be a lot of seniors at mid-majors who will take advantage of the extra year and try to move up a level as a grad transfer.

There will be worse options for a 13th scholly than a kid who hit 49% of his 3s when he was a role player and who was highly efficient as a lead player (including from 2, not just 3).

I can hear the Yard now if we get him...

It’s raining 3’s
Theres a Nor Easter coming
He’s hot
He’s cold
He cant handle the high pressure of a major conference
He sucks. His shot comes from a low front-al position

As noted above, it will likely be a bloated transfer market of 5th seniors, but I think he would be a great addition for Cole & Diggins to find on the perimeter and knock down open shots.

He did not get many chances this year against P6 competition as barometer for how his game translates (6 points @ Texas A&M but 2-4 from 3), but he did go 5-10 from 3 pt range @ UNC, 2-3 @ Duke, 2-6 @ Missouri, and 3-5 @ Butler last year.

Combined all 5 games against P6 schools he shot 14/25 from 3-point range or 56% and with a worse supporting cast than he would have here so he would likely get similar or better open looks from beyond the arc. It's a small sample size, but couple that with his ability to shoot throughout his career, you can safely assume he would succeed in the Big East.

He's not from the northeast or mid atlantic so outside the recruiting area Hurley has primarily focused but let's see if they reach out.

This kid can absolutely ball. Shot 49% from the 3 a couple of years ago. But his former coach landed at Virginia Tech, so they're the favorites to land him.

Don't forget he dips when he shoots. 😀

Pass. I've read here on the BY that transfers who come from mid majors don't perform that great when moving up to a power conference. I'm trying to think of an exception. Any one? :)

I can totally see Mike Young swoop in to have Murphy replace the graduating Bede for 21-22.
[patting myself on the back]

Mike Young now with three former Wofford players/commits on his squad (Murphy, Aluma, Cattoor). Shows how much his former players like playing for him, real likable guy and rooting for him to succeed in the ACC.
