Maybe too harsh.

They definitely played without purpose. To mix analogies, I'd say they were without oars or the person who yells directions in the canoe races. Players didn't know what was expected on most plays and it is embarrassingly obvious when they play against well coached teams.

Quit? it's code word for they stopped believing in their leader. That was a shell of the team that fought like hello on the road against Navy. That is the difference between a team believing and fighting like hell and a team resigned to no matter what, the end result will be the same .

They got lit up in the first half all season, were better after half time.

Mostly because opposing coaches took their foot off the gas pedal in the second half.
