I preface this by saying I haven't watched the ND game yet (was at my parents and the DVR failed me):

Our identity is simple - play tough D and rebound and good things happen. Each run (of Cincy's) tonight was precipitated by hands down, 3 down. Daggers abound tonight. What bugs me, is that despite a size advantage, we still spent the entire night on the offensive perimeter. I understand that AO and AD struggled, but it is partially due to a lack of consistent touches inside. If we are going to have good, maybe not great, inside guys, they need to roll games likes this. What was our height advantage on the 4? It was obvious when Giff caught that inside pass and was able to elevate over the top that our hay should have been made inside.

That said, crappy loss. Had a chance, but again our kryptonites (3 ball & untimely turnovers) hurt us. Giff played well. Lamb struggled shooting but is showing constant effort. AO continues to miss puppies, but with more looks, that will change. Scow plays hard - without him we don't snag a lead in the 2nd. Napier, eh.

The team looked tired. We need the NCAA to free the boatshow at least to allow us to play with a full squad. Love this team. Love this coach. Onward we march!

Don't agree with the bolded part, I understand the bigs are not doing a good job at all setting screens, but Jeremy is literally jogging through them, when you compare how he was slicing through the court trying to get free on those two baskets off screens against Zona in the tourney last year to this its like night and day. Then of course there was his D on that last possession, not good.

They had 16 shots between them. They made 3. That is not good and honestly not sure they should get more than that a game. That is a good amount of attempts. Honestly, it was just a bad night for them. You are talking about a 4 who shoots 45%+ and a 5 who shoots 55%+ or so from the floor. They couldn't even dunk the ball properly tonight.

This team is insanely talented and athletic. Amongst the keys to a national title run will be scoring in the paint by the big men, better perimeter defense and better ball handling.

But how many attempts were last second or a product of unanticipated passes? Many. Lamb played every minute tonight but continued to play better D than usual, not to mention rebounding effort. Not a single screen player, from Rip to Kemba, pushed hard through every screen the entire night. That isn't the design. The design is for them to be decoys almost as many times as they are primary options.

I didn't count them but,

I can remember one alley-opp Drummond missed. 2 jumpshots he missed in the first half. I remember him missing a floater. That's 4 of his 7 misses. I think another may have been a tip.

Oriakhi I remember he missed the first shot of the game (turnaround) and a backdown at the end of the second and I believe he also missed an elbow jumper sometime in the first. So that's 3 of his 6 misses.

I don't mind the missed jumpers. The alley-opp was a fluke. Only bad shot in there (one I don't want to see them taking) was the floater, that was weak.

AO and AD didn't just struggle on the offensive end of the floor. Gates outscored them (13 to 6) and had as many rebounds as both (12 to 12). AO and AD were 3 of 16 from the floor. 1 blocked shot.

Both were asleep tonight.

Do you recall a few of these "jumpers" being at lest 15 footers or more? Apparently not. Yes AD missed an alley oop. You're right on that one. You still dwell on one part of a post. Against 6'5" guys, the bigs should get a chance to score almost every time down the court. Save for Boat, the rest of the team is awful at breaking down a defender. So, instead of working the ball, possibly inside to out, we just dribble until 10 seconds lest on the shot clock. I'd rather take my chances with AO and AD before it got to that.
