Rather than start another thread, I thought I'd tack this on here. It's another really neat article about Breanna ...and Moriah!
Whether their WNBA team is mired in a losing streak, or one of the players is coming off a spectacular performance, Stewart and Jefferson can expect an encouraging call every few days. It’s been that way since they first crossed paths eight years ago during an AAU tournament in Virginia.
Back then, Jefferson was playing for the Dallas-Fort Worth Elite and Stewart with the Philly Belles. The players went at each other hard that day, with Jefferson trying to get around and to the basket before Stewart could block her shot. After Jefferson’s team emerged victorious, the players took a picture. Jefferson said she still has it.
It was the beginning of a friendship that stretched to USA Basketball, college and now the professional ranks.
“She’s like family,” Jefferson said of Stewart. “Coming from similar situations, and then you’re facing a lot of different things, it’s good to lean back on each other.”
Such is life for Jefferson and Stewart. One is 6-foot-4, white and from New York (Stewart). The other is 5-6, African American and from Texas (Jefferson). But the players have much in common.
In the NY Times article, Geno is said to be in touch with Bre often to help her deal with losing. Due respect, but Coach A. is hardly someone who knows much about losing. Maybe JP McCallie could be of some help here . . .
