Steph Entered in the NBA Dunk Contest

Buzelis is the second player reported to be competing in the dunk contest and will join San Antonio Spurs second-year guard Stephon Castle, according to a report from ESPN.

Uh...Is this timeline so messed up that because Castle was drafted last June and now it's January of the following year, Stephon is a 2nd year player?

Mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, UConn basketball alum being involved in anything is great for exposure and makes me proud.

On the other hand, the dunk contest has become a boring laughingstock of late. I pray that Steph performs well and none of the stink rubs off on him.

Everything about All-Star weekend sucks hot donkey balls, but I’ll of course watch Steph.

Man, the dunk contest in the late 80s/early 90s was so freaking fun to watch. You have some of the biggest stars participating every year and there was a legit competition of sorts. There have been some outliers (Gordon/Levine for sure) but for the most part the whole All-Star weekend thing is just painful in all aspects. I'm hoping Steph gets some additional exposure but he doesn't strike me as a guy who would do particularly well in this.

They need to just scrap the dunk contest because the superstars refuse to participate nowadays and it's a bad product. If they keep the contest invite these guys because they're way better dunkers than any of the NBA guys.

You're right but a lot of the slam dunk contest negativity is just because the public's expectations are so high. The dunks in any recent dunk contest blow just about all of those dunks out of the water.

Guys were doing simple reverse dunks in those days and the crowd was going wild

True... I do think part of it, as well, is the "name" of the participants. The earliest dunk contests in the late 70s/early 80s were all hall of famers. I mean McClung is great but he's a D-League player. If Lebron, Giannis, or some other big name participated, people would tune in en masse, imo.

This makes my knees hurt. My 22in vertical (generous) can barely handle a landing.

This guy dunking during halftime of a random Cavs game will be better than any of the NBA guys in the contest...

That Miller guy had some incredible dunks especially that last one. Has come McClung vibes to his dunks.
